DUI, hit and run
MOUNT CARMEL - Jedidah David Labella, 20, of 27 Third St., Berwick, was charged by Patrolman Kevin Katch with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and making fictitious police reports and summary offenses of underage consumption of alcohol, accidents to unattended property, failing to notify police of an accident, careless driving and violating rules of a learners permit for an incident that occurred May 2.
Katch said Labella struck several vehicles near Fifth and Market streets before police located him. Labella was visibly intoxicated, said Katch, and admitted to consuming three or four shots of alcohol. Labella only had a learners permit and had been driving the car alone when the accident occurred.
When police initially contacted Labella concerning the accident, he claimed the vehicle had been stolen. Katch said Labella had dust from deployed air bags in his hair.
Burglary
MOUNT CARMEL - Dustin Michael Mollany, 23, of 909 E. Chestnut St., Apt. 3, Mifflinburg, was arraigned Monday on felony counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property and a misdemeanor count of loitering and prowling at night for an incident that occurred around 1 a.m. Jan. 14, 2012.
Cpl. David Donkochik said information from a confidential informant matched descriptions from the victim, Ronald Halcovich, allowing police to crack the case.
The confidential informant said Mollany was employed by a contractor performing work on Mollany's house when he discovered a white fireproof lock box. He paid someone $1,000 to drive him from Mifflinburg to Mount Carmel and quietly made his way through the house while Halcovich was sleeping. The safe was not on its original location.
Mollany went into Halcovich's bedroom and found the box in the bedside table, the informant said. Halcovich woke up, saw Mollany and yelled. Mollany ran down the steps and to the basement, where he fled from the building with the box to the awaiting getaway car.
The box contained $11,600 in cash and personal papers.
Mollany was released on $50,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10.
DUI, careless driving
MOUNT CARMEL - Eric Galen Filipczak, 20, of 301 E. Melrose St., P.O. Box 186, Marion Heights, was charged by township police with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence and summary offenses of underage drinking, driving with an open container, careless driving and failing to stay within a lane for an incident that occurred around 2 a.m. May 5.
Patrolman David Tomtishen said he observed Filipczak driving erratically in a Jeep Wrangler on Route 61 near the intersection with Route 54. Filipczak appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. Multiple open cans and bottles of beer were located in the vehicle.
Tomtishen said he tried to send Filipczak to the hospital for a blood test but Filipczak began yelling. According to the criminal complaint, at one point Filipczak said, "No wonder you guys are being shot and killed down in Baltimore."
A passenger in the vehicle, Zachary Robert Tocyloski, 19, of 136 S. Center St., Natalie, was charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary offense of underage drinking.
Tomtishen said in addition to being intoxicated, Tocyloski admitted to owning a pipe and marijuana that had been thrown from a window of the vehicle and was laying near the rear passenger side tire.
Filipczak, Tocyloski and two passengers were taken to the station where they received a ride home from the father of one of the passengers.
Simple assault
MOUNT CARMEL - Cory William Long, 34, of 216 W. Valley Ave., Elysburg, was charged by Ralpho Township Patrolman Chris Grow with one misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary offense of harassment.
Grow said at around 1 a.m. May 25 Long assaulted his live-in girlfriend at his house. The woman had a red abrasions near her left armpit and on her left forearm and right arm.
