SUNBURY - Five defendants charged with various offenses were sentenced Monday in the Court of Common Pleas.

n Wade Smink, 40, of Coal Township, was sentenced by Northumberland County Judge Charles Saylor to 72 hours to six months in county prison for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, had his driver's license suspended for one year and is prohibited from drinking alcohol or attending bars.

The defendant was charged by Mount Carmel Township police with DUI involving a Nov. 19, 2013, incident.

Smink also was sentenced to five years probation and fined $100 on two counts of conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver cocaine and heroin relating to a July 1, 2012, incident involving an investigation conducted by Shamokin police and state Attorney General's Office.

The defendant received an additional two years probation and $50 fine for acquiring or obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresentation relating to a Feb. 2, 2013, incident involving an investigation conducted by Sunbury police and state Attorney General's Office. That sentence runs consecutive to the sentenced imposed in the Shamokin case.

Smink will begin serving his sentence June 20.

n David Sadusky, 35, of Gordon, was sentenced by Saylor to six months probation and fined $300 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Sadusky will not have his license suspended because the Aug. 11, 2014, incident in Mount Carmel Township that he was charged in was his first offense and did not involve an accident or blood-alcohol test refusal.

Sadusky is prohibited from drinking alcohol or attending bars and must complete driving safety school classes.

n Saylor sentenced David Gulba Jr., 36, of Trevorton, to one year probation and fined him $500 for criminal mischief involving a Dec. 27, 2013, incident in Coal Township. Gulba was ordered to make $1,000 restitution to the victim, Ted Long.

Gulba was found guilty of the offense May 1 during a jury trial.

n Northumberland County President Judge William H. Wiest sentenced Matthew Kern, 23, of Mahanoy City, to one year probation and fined him $150 for possession of marijuana involving an Oct. 13, 2013, incident in Mount Carmel.

Kern is prohibited from drinking alcohol or attending bars and cannot have contact with drug users or dealers.

n Natasha Kukuk, 23, of Williamstown, was sentenced by Wiest to nine months probation and fined $100 for retail theft. Kukuk was charged by Coal Township police in connection with a June 30 incident.
