Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Glenn Heim Jr., 37, of 29 N. Second St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Chad Yoder with retail theft for allegedly stealing $465.02 in merchandise from Walmart Supercenter at about 6 p.m. Dec. 23.

Police said Heim was stopped by store security personnel upon leaving the business with the merchandise in his shopping cart.

Domestic disturbance

SHAMOKIN - Patrick J. Brady Jr., 45, of 34 N. Third St., Shamokin, was arraigned by video Friday on charges of simple assault, harassment and resisting arrest involving a domestic disturbance.

Police said the assault occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Brady is accused of attempting to push his live-in girlfriend, Courtney Depoe, down a set of steps at their home, hitting her in the face and grabbing her face and head in an attempt to twist her neck, causing redness, pain and abrasions.

Police, who found a rifle in the home, said Brady assaulted Depoe in the presence of her 2-year-old son.

Police deployed a Taser when Brady resisted arrest. Taser probes struck Brady in the center of the chest, but they did not stop him from aggressively coming toward police and refusing to obey multiple commands. Police had to use substantial force to take Brady into custody.

Brady was initially committed by Gembic to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury, but was later released after posting $7,500 cash bail.
