Driver cited in crash
COAL TOWNSHIP - Kevin Carsto, 21, of Coal Township, was cited by Patrolman Jason Adams for driving under suspension and failing to drive at a safe speed following an investigation into an Oct. 15 accident along Route 61 at the Brewery Curve at Tharptown.
Animal cruelty
WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP - State police at Milton reported someone shot an airsoft gun at a dog owned by Mircea Marincas, 45, of 4800 State Route 405, causing a BB to lodge in the animal's left front paw.
Police said the incident occurred Saturday or Sunday at Marincas' residence.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call state police at Milton at 570-524-2662.
Charges withdrawn
MOUNT CARMEL - Charges of unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, simple assault, two counts of simple assault, theft and cruelty to animals filed against Mark J. Derr, 21, of Lebabon, were withdrawn Wednesday at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones when the alleged victim, Danielle Freitag, refused to testify against her boyfriend.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski, Derr was charged with throwing Freitag onto a couch, sitting on top of her, choking her, placing a pillow over her face, threatening to kill her, kicking her, stealing her phone, throwing her around by the hair, ripping her shirt off and kicking her dog twice.
Police said the alleged assault occurred at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Freitag's residence at 325 W. Saylor St., Atlas.
Makes restitution
MOUNT CARMEL - A bad check charge filed by Ralpho Township Cpl. Bryon Chowka against Salvatore M. Guarna, 33, of 24 E. Third St., Apt. 401, Mount Carmel, was withdrawn Wednesday at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones after the defendant made restitution in the amount of $782.85 to Miller's Gas and Oil, Route 61, Weigh Scales.
Guarna was charged with issuing a bad check in the amount of $741.37 on June 23. A $41.48 service charge was added to the restitution.
Ranshaw fight
RANSHAW - Coal Township police are investigating a fight that was reported at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Third Street.
Police said two males were taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville as a result of the physical altercation. One of the males was admitted to the hospital, while the other underwent emergency room treatment before being released.
A report made to Northumberland County Communications Center indicated one of the males may have been stabbed.
No other details were released by police.
DUI
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Kelly Campbell has charged Todd K. Dombroski, 46, of 117 S. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel, with driving under the influence of a solvent or noxious substance, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, careless driving and passing a vehicle in a "no passing" zone involving a two-vehicle accident Oct. 3 on Route 54 in Natalie in which a pit bull was ejected from the defendant's car.
Police said the put bull was removed from the scene and taken to Sunbury Animal Hospital.
Police reported Dombroski had acetone and isopropanol in his blood system. Acetone is a solvent used for chemicals and paints. Isopropanol is a common industrial and laboratory chemical contained in rubbing alcohol. It may be consumed for intoxicating effects.
Terroristic threats
ATLAS - Ruben Alvarez, 38, of 545 Spruce St., Kulpmont, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Keith Tamborelli with terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, driving under suspension, reckless driving, careless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol involving a Sept. 14 disturbance at the Pine Burr Inn.
Police said Alvarez, who was observed driving erratically in the parking lot at the bar/restaurant, refused to submit to a blood test. Upon being taken to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury, police said Alvarez threatened to "blow up the officer and kill him."
DUI
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Eric M. Lavine, 40, of Richland, was charged by Patrolman Keith Tamborelli with driving under the influence of a combination of drugs, careless driving and reckless driving.
Police reported Lavine was observed by another motorist swerving all over Route 54 between Elysburg and Mount Carmel Township on June 1 before being pulled over at the intersection of Routes 54 and 901.
Police said Lavine had Clonazepam, Amino Clonazepam, Topiramate, Fluoxetine and Norfluoxetine in his blood system.
Multiple charges
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Keith Tamborelli has charged Timothy W. Weaver, 35, of 336 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel, with two counts of illegally operating a motor vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, failing to possess a valid registration, operating a vehicle without proper inspection and driving without a license.
Police reported Weaver is accused of stealing $150 from John Zamboni, a resident at Serenity Gardens, on June 29 and fleeing in a black pickup truck.
Simple assault
SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Bryan Primerano has charged Brian Shaffer, 26, of 320 S. Second St., Sunbury, with simple assault, terroristic threats and stalking relating an incident at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Police reported Shaffer pushed his girlfriend, Billie Jo Parks, against a wall and onto the ground, choked her and held a knife to her neck at 20 N. Diamond St.
Parks suffered injuries in the assault, police said.
Shaffer was arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
