Investigation continues
MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police reported no new information on the incident Thursday night in which three juvenile hid in darkened areas carrying what appeared at the time to be long sniper rifles.
The rifles were later determined to be airsoft rifles, and the 15-year-old boys, two from Mount Carmel and one from Lavelle, had fireworks and airsoft pistols in backpacks they were carrying. One boy had a 10 to 11-inch long military type knife in his backpack.
The panic started by the prank forced Mount Carmel Area school officials to cancel a pep rally and parade planned for that time and kept students on lockdown inside the football stadium and the nearby field house for approximately one hour while police investigated.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Janel Reed, 31, of 801 W. Pine St., reported to Coal Township police that a kitchen window at her home was cracked sometime Wednesday night after being shot with a BB. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-644-0333.
Barking dogs
COAL TOWNSHIP - Bobbie Jean Gribbon, 39, of 1131 E. Webster St., was cited for allowing her dogs to continually bark in her backyard Monday afternoon. Police say she made no attempt to calm the dogs.
