Trash charge

SHAMOKIN - Toni Ruth Pashia, 45, of 30 N. Anthracite St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Shane Mowery for violating the city's rubbish ordinance. Pashia is accused of tossing two bags of household trash into someone else's Dumpster in the 100 block of North Eighth Street on Oct. 18.

Stealing snuff

SUNBURY - An inmate of the Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury, is accused of attempting to steal a can of Skoal Xtra Mint tobacco from a sheriff deputy's desk Friday.

Alexander Armstrong, 28, of Mount Carmel, was in restraints at the time he attempted to steal and conceal the tobacco inside his prison-issued clothing about 3:15 p.m., according to the sheriff's office. He was at the county courthouse for a court appearance.

Deputy Sheriff Curtis T. Cooke cited Armstrong for disorderly conduct. The citation will be filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum.

DUI, fleeing

ATLAS - Arthur E. Mickel, 50, of 117 W. Girard St., Atlas, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance and fleeing police in connection with an Aug. 9 incident in this Mount Carmel Township village.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell, Mickel, who has a suspended driver's license and was wanted by authorities, was spotted driving a vehicle east on West Girard Street at about 12:30 p.m. before fleeing police and abandoning the vehicle on Mahogany Street near East Columbia Avenue. Police said Mickel intentionally dropped the keys to the vehicle on the ground while walking and resisted arrest when Campbell attempted to handcuff him.

Police said Mickel was wanted on a warrant by the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office and also was on probation.

Police said Mickel had a blood-alcohol content of .066 percent and also had Oxycodone-Free in his blood system.

He was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones and committed to Norhumberland County Prison, Sunbury, in lieu of $30,000 cash bail.

DUI

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Christopher Grow has charged Joseph A. Cikanovich, 49, of 1450 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and operating a vehicle without official inspection.

Police said Cikanovich registered a blood-alcohol content of .121 percent after being found by Grow sitting in a vehicle stuck in the middle of a muddy grass field near Drug Plastics at 4:15 p.m. March 21.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Elmer Jason Steinbrunn, 52, of Schuylkill Haven, was charged by Patrolman Kelly Campbell with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a combination of drugs, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and careless driving involving an Aug. 24 two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 54 and Park Avenue near Marion Heights.

Police said Steinbrunn was found to have multiple drugs in his blood system including marijuana and Oxycodone-Free.
