Pleads guilty

MOUNT CARMEL - Robert M. Daniels II, 25, of 120 Columbia Ave., Atlas, pleaded guilty Wednesday to open lewdness and public drunkenness and was ordered to pay $800 in fines plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year.

Additional charges of indecent exposure and resisting arrest were withdrawn.

Daniels was charged by Mount Carmel Lt. Christopher Buhay with exposing himself at Town Park Sunday morning.

DUI on bicycle

MOUNT CARMEL - Christopher Sean Olarry, 25, of 346 W. Third St., Wilburton, faces charges of bicycling without headlights and two counts of driving under the influence after being detained at 12:35 a.m. July 22, according to a criminal complaint filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell at Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones' office.

Olarry was stopped because he was riding north on Route 61 at night without any front or rear lighting, which is required by law, according to the complaint. Campbell said Olarry smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech and had red and glassy eyes. A blood test revealed a blood alcohol content of .204.

Olarry was arraigned Tuesday and released on $5,000 bail.

Assault, harassment

MOUNT CARMEL - Matthew Steven Dietz, 24, of 129 W. Third St., Second Floor, Mount Carmel, was remanded to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail Tuesday after he was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Cpl. David Donkochik, Dietz became engaged in an altercation and struck his girlfriend's father, Brian Andrewsky, in the face at 315 S. Locust St., Mount Carmel, at approximately 8 p.m. July 23.

Assault, animal cruelty

MOUNT CARMEL - Mark James Derr, 21, with a last known address of 238 S. Grape St., Mount Carmel, was charged with theft, animal cruelty, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats and two counts of simple assault for an incident Oct. 26, 2013, at 325 W. Saylor St., Atlas.

According to Patrolman Matthew Filarski, Derr assaulted his then-girlfriend Danielle Freitag, kicked her dog twice and stole her cell phone.

Derr was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones Wednesday. He was remanded to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Burglary

MOUNT CARMEL - Robert Thomas Chuplis, 36, of 354 W. Main St., Girardville, is facing three felony and two misdemeanor charges filed by Cpl. David Donkochick who said Chuplis broke into 233 N. Park St., Mount Carmel, by removing a window air conditioning unit and stole prescription medications Sept. 20.

According to the criminal complaint, Chuplis knew the resident, Nile Fisher, possessed prescription medications and that she would not be home. He was found shortly before the burglary was discovered attempting to exchange Percocet pills for a ride to Girardville. Percocet and Ativan pills had been taken from Fisher's home.

Fisher said during a phone conversation Chuplis admitted to taking the pills and offered $500 in exchange for Fisher not pressing charges. The call was overheard by Fisher's daughter.

Chuplis was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones Tuesday on charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, possessing a controlled substance, theft and receiving stolen property. He was remanded to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail.
