Burglary
COAL TOWNSHIP - Tara Henz, 27, of 1435 W. Independence St., told Coal Township police someone forced open the front door to her residence between 1 and 9 p.m. Saturday and stole approximately $4 in change from the kitchen area.
There was damage to the door frame to the residence.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 570-644-0333.
Retail theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - Kelly Whitmer, 29, of Shamokin, has been charged with retail theft for incidents that occurred at Walmart in Coal Township.
Police said she allegedly stole a total of $298.97 worth of gift cards from Walmart by making fraudulent returns June 6 and 7. The charge was filed by Patrolman Matthew Hashuga.
Retail theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - Robert S. Sanneman Jr., 22, of Mount Carmel, and Inga S. Butler, 43, of Mount Carmel, have been charged with retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft for an incident at Walmart.
Patrolman Matthew Hashuga, who filed the charges, reported the two are accused of stealing $720 worth of merchandise from the store without paying full retail value.
Assault charge
MOUNT CARMEL - Jake D. Stellar, 25, of 245 E. Fourth St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Justin Stelma with simple assault and harassment involving a June 19 disturbance at Third and Oak streets.
Police reported Stellar is accused of punching Robert Longo in the left eye, causing bleeding. Police said Longo underwent emergency room treatment at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.
Stellar was arraigned on the charges Friday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Retail theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - Austin A. Barry, 18, of Shamokin, has been charged with two counts of retail theft for incidents at Walmart.
Patrolman Matthew Hashuga said Barry is charged with stealing $389.96 worth of merchandise May 12 and $628.60 worth of merchandise July 9 without paying full retail value.
Four escape injury
FRAILEY TOWNSHIP - Four people, including three Shamokin residents, escaped injury in a two-vehicle accident Thursday on I-81 near mile marker 107 in this Schuylkill County township.
State police at Frackville reported Kathy J. Rothermel, 47, of Shamokin, was stopped in the left passing lane for a traffic jam at 1:55 p.m. when a 2009 Hyundai Sonata operated by Jacob C. Souva, 21, of Sayre, failed to stop and struck the rear of Rothermel's 2013 Ford Explorer.
Souva, Rothermel and two passengers in her vehicle, Debra A. McIntyre, 57, and Laura Hornberger, 80, both of Shamokin, were not injured.
Souva will be cited for a traffic violation, police said.
