Gate theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - An unknown person stole an iron gate valued between $200 and $250 from the yard of Sherry Knapick, 57, of 1109 W. Independence St., Coal Township, sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Anyone with information is asked to contact Coal Township police.
Crash
SHAMOKIN DAM - A Muncy man was injured around 1:30 p.m. Sunday when he failed to yield the right of way while making a left hand turn at a traffic light in front of Aldi on Routes 11/15.
State police said Harold L. Fowler, 79, of Muncy, driving a 1995 Saturn SL2, collided with a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by Dennis L. Baker, 66, of Shamokin. Fowler was transported to Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Neither Baker nor a passenger in Fowler's vehicle, Dorthy E. Portzline, 70, of Mount Pleasant Mills, was injured.
Fowler was cited with failure to obey traffic signals.
Theft
STONINGTON - State police charged Cory Daniel Hine, 23, of 1222 Airport Road, Paxinos, with felony breaking and entering, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property and misdemeanor criminal mischief in connection with a break-in and theft that occurred around 11 p.m. July 6 at Frey's Garage, Dogwood Road, Shamokin.
State police said Hine broke into the garage using a crow bar and stole four 15 inch polished aluminum General Motors wheels, five 15 inch aluminum Jeep wheels, one 15 inch aluminum racing wheel, six Muncie four speed transmissions, a 426 General Motors Big Block engine head, four radiators, an electric motor with an air conditioning compressor, one transfer case, one Ford Explorer rear end 8.8 axle with 4.10 liter, and miscellaneous tools. Hine then sold the items at Stoneroads U Pull It for scrap value July 10.
When questioned, Hine confessed to committing the act with his brother, Bradley Hine, police said.
DUI
SHAMOKIN - Justin Michael Petro, 19, of 138 Third St., Mount Carmel, was charged with felony possession with intent to sell an unregulated substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of an unprescribed drug and driving under the influence of enough drugs of incapable driving, and a summary offense of operating a vehicle without a certificate of inspection.
City police pulled Petro over at 9:13 p.m. June 29 for a broken taillight and discovered Petro's vehicle had an expired inspection. Petro was sweaty, had pinpoint pupils and smelled of spice; a syringe was found in his front pocket. Officers found a glass smoking pipe, multiple baggies of spice and a Daytrana patch. A blood test revealed Oxycodone in Petro's system.
A passenger in the vehicle, Jake Donte Stellar, 24, of 245 E. Fourth St., Mount Carmel, was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Illegal knives
SHAMOKIN - Ronald Martz, 55, of 67 Raspberry Hill, Shamokin, was charged with misdemeanor possessing prohibited weapons and disorderly conduct after he was discovered to be carrying two switchblades at 6:09 p.m. July 24.
City police said Martz's girlfriend alerted police that he was suicidal and carrying a stun gun. Martz initially fled when police located him on the 200 block of Anthracite Street. When he was stopped on the 200 block of Seventh Street, police found two switchblades, which are prohibited in Pennsylvania, in his pockets. He also had a flashlight with a "stun gun" feature.
During the interaction, Martz became upset and threw his cell phone on the ground, causing it to break. He was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, by AREA Services.
Drugs
COAL TOWNSHIP - Jennifer A. Lowry, 29, of 1345 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor drug possession after police discovered plastic baggies of heroin in her home July 6.
Criminal mischief
SHAMOKIN - Blake Alexander Dunbar, 20, of 128 S. Market St., Shamokin, was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and disorderly conduct and a summary offense of loitering and prowling at night after the sale of a cell phone went wrong in the early morning hours of July 13.
Police said Dunbar made threats and demanded $20 via text message to Travis Byers, who Dunbar alleges purchased a phone from him and did not pay him. Dunbar then broke off a piece of pipe from a chain link fence and smashed the windows and made dents in a car owned by Byers' girlfriend. Damages to the vehicle are estimated at $1,122.54.
Drugs
SHAMOKIN - Jonathan P. Schick, 29, of 192 McKnight Road, Gordon, was charged with felony possession with intent to deliver an unregulated substance, misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of drugs and driving under the influence of enough drugs to render him incapable of driving and a summary offense of driving in the wrong lane for an incident occurring at 3:30 p.m. June 24.
City police said Schick was pulled over for driving erratically and after a blood test was found to be under the influence of Diazepam, Nordiazepam, Odycodone and Oxymorphone. Baggies containing spice and a burned blunt were found in Schick's pockets.
Offensive weapon
COAL TOWNSHIP - Antwain Carter, 22, an inmate at SCI-Coal Township, was charged by Trooper Ronald Zanella of state police at Stonington with possessing an instrument of a crime, possessing a prohibitive offensive weapon and possessing a weapon or implement for escape involving an incident Monday afternoon at the prison.
Police said Carter was found in possession of a 6-inch piece of metal resembling a knife during a pat down search as he was entering a recreation yard.
Terroristic threats
COAL TOWNSHIP - Joseph R. Hornberger, 44, of 41 S. Oak St., Apt. 6, Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Chad Yoder with harassment and terroristic threats involving a disturbance at 20 N. Oak St. late Monday night.
Police reported Hornberger allegedly left messages twice on the answering machine of his sister, Lisa Wormald, in which he called her a vulgar name and threatened to burn down her house and kill her kids.
Police said the calls were made shortly after 11 p.m.
Forgery
SHAMOKIN - Chief of Police Darwin Tobias III has filed charges of forgery, access device fraud, theft and possession of drug paraphernalia against Zackery D. Hayes, 18, of 40 E. Sunbury St., Shamokin.
Police said Hayes stole checks from his grandmother, Margaret A. Martinez, and used them for cash at Walmart Supercenter without her permission. In addition to finding crumbled up and ripped checks in Hayes' bedroom, police also discovered several empty blue glassine packets commonly used to package heroin.
Hayes told police he stole the checks and cashed them to buy heroin.
Police said the crimes were committed between June 22 and June 27.
Retail theft
MOUNT CARMEL - Jeffrey J. Tomashefski, 26, of 250 S. Hickory St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman William Adamski with retail theft.
Police said Tomashefski is accused of stealing $2.85 worth of candy from the Dollar General store at 250 S. Market St. June 12.
