Death not suspicious

WATSONTOWN - Police have concluded that the death of a Shamokin woman in Watsontown Thursday is not suspicious.

Watsontown police began an investigation into the death of Helen M. Knarr, 45, after she was found deceased at 159 Grandview Drive. Following an autopsy, police announced Monday that the death is not suspicious.

Police said they are awaiting the results from toxicology testing.

Resisting arrest

SHAMOKIN - Tonya Wilk, 31, of 409 N. Rock St., Shamokin, has been charged with striking her live-in boyfriend, Robert Gilligbauer, several times in the head and arms and resisting arrest early Tuesday involving a disturbance at their residence.

Chief of Police Darwin Tobias III charged Wilk with resisting arrest, public drunkenness, harassment and disorderly conduct after she allegedly struck Gilligbauer, banged on a door, continuously screamed at police and pulled away from officers in an attempt to flee. Police said Wilk refused to be handcuffed, prompting police to use force to take her into custody.

The disturbance occurred at 4:40 a.m.

Wilk was detained in a holding cell at Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury, where she was arraigned by video at 9:45 a.m. by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Guilty pleas

SHAMOKIN - Two defendants pleaded guilty Tuesday to criminal charges before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III.

Ryan Howell, 42, of 126 N. Eighth St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to a summary offense of disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs. A charge of causing a public nuisance was withdrawn.

Howell was charged by Shamokin Chief of Police Darwin Tobias III with continuously keeping large piles of garbage, discarded food and other waste under a rear porch and in a common entry way, causing a major nuisance to neighbors.

The charges relate to a May 19 incident.

Kaitlyn Rudy, 23, of 1321 W. Arch St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year. An additional charge of furnishing or selling liquor or alcohol to a minor was withdrawn.

Rudy was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II in connection with a June 27 incident at Rock and Sunbury streets.

High grass

COAL TOWNSHIP - Lisa O'Day, of 528 Ruben Kehrer Road, Muncy, was cited by code officer Chris Petrovich on July 1 for high grass at her property at 1570 Pulaski Ave.

Barking dog

SHAMOKIN - Lita E. Maguire, 24, of 38 N. Third St., was cited by Patrolman William Miner for a noise violation at 12:29 a.m. July 25. Police said her dog barked continuously, disturbing the neighborhood.

DUI enforcement

POTTSVILLE - The North Central Highway Safety Network's Regional DUI Enforcement Group and the Coal Township Police Department have announced either roving patrols or sobriety checkpoints will be conducted between Thursday and Aug. 10 on Routes 61, 225, 125, 54, 487, 901 and 147 or other roads connecting the highways to municipalities.

Travelers are reminded to report drunk drivers by dialing 911. To report underage drinking, call 1-888-under-21.

The roving patrols and checkpoints are funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA).
