Drug possession
COAL TOWNSHIP - Jennifer Lowry, 29, of 1345 W. Walnut St., was charged with drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia after she was found in possession of plastic baggies containing heroin, Coal Township police reported. Police were investigating a disturbance at her residence at 1 a.m. July 6.
Vehicle accident
COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Route 225 near Nesterick Road at 6:45 a.m. Sunday.
Township police said a 2012 Jeep Compass, driven by Joshua Jurewicz, 25, of Shamokin, was traveling north on Route 225 when he swerved to avoid a deer on the roadway. His vehicle then struck a cluster of mailboxes. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
Hit and run
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police continue to investigate a hit-and-run crash Friday in the area of Fourth and Main streets, Ranshaw.
Coal Township Police Cpl. Terry Ketchem reported a vehicle driven by Deborah Keeley, 37, of 148 Independence Street, Shamokin, struck a road barrier, causing damage to the barrier and her vehicle. Police say Keeley then abandoned the vehicle on the side of the road, and failed to report the accident to police.
Keeley was charged with failing to report an accident involving damage to an unattended vehicle or property.
Damage to vehicle
BURNSIDE - Trevor Schrader, 33, of Burnside, reported to Coal Township Police that at 3 p.m. Sunday, his 2006 Ford F-150 truck was damaged when a tire from a trailer came off the wheel and struck his vehicle.
The vehicle the tire came from is a trailer containing two dirt bikes attached to a dark-colored full size truck that was traveling south on Route 125.
Anyone with information on who may own the trailer or has knowledge of the incident is asked to contact Coal Township Police at 570-644-0333.
Dog law
COAL TOWNSHIP - Debra Mirack, of 1234 W. Spruce St., faces a state dog law violation following a dog attack Saturday.
Cpl. Terry Ketchem of the Coal Township Police reported Mirack's dog jumped a fence at the rear of her residence and attacked a male and his small dog. Both the dog and victim suffered minor injuries.
The charges against Mirack were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
Huffing in store
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Edward Balch, 19, of 219 S. Maple St., Mount Carmel, with retail theft and the sale or illegal use of certain solvents and noxious substances after an incident at the Walmart SuperCenter, Coal Township July 6.
Police said Balch walked into the store, selected an aerosol can of duster spray, sprayed the contents into his mouth, then dropped the can on the floor and left.
Theft, drug charge
KULPMONT - Anthony M. Zamboni, 27, of 622 Scott Street, Apt D., Kulpmont, faces charges of receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia in conjunction with a break-in that occurred April 22.
Police said Zamboni knowingly received stolen games and gaming hardware and sold them for $104.20 at Game Stop in Coal Township in exchange for $30. During a search, police found drug paraphernalia in Zamboni's apartment.
Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones.
Drug charges
MOUNT CARMEL - Police charged Kimberly Ann Olearnick, 28, of 240 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel, with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance after her sister alerted police on April 30 and May 1 that she found pills and needles in Olearnick's possession.
Police said Jolene Croker discovered seven Lorazepam pills in Olearnick's purse April 30 at her mother's residence, 240 S. Beech St.
Croker then found two hypodermic needles and a spoon, as well as an orange pill bottle containing urine beneath the bed of Olearnick's son while cleaning her mother's house May 1.
Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones.
Drugs, theft
MOUNT CARMEL - Police charged Casey Sue Kern, 27, of 137 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, with a felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor count of theft and a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property for an incident occurring June 11.
Borough police allege Kern stole Vicodin and Xanax pills from her mother, Patricia Wright, of 127 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, while she was at her mother's house to do laundry.
Kern was also charged with false identification to law enforcement authorities for an incident on June 10.
Borough police said Kern was involved in an argument in the street, and when approached, identified herself as her sister. An accompanying officer recognized Kern and knew the information to be false.
Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones.
Crash
LYKENS - A Shamokin woman was injured at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday when a motorcycle veered from the roadway on Peter's Mountain.
State police said Joel W. Haupt, 48, of Shamokin, failed to negotiate a sharp turn on a 2004 Yamaha Sportster. The motorcycle struck a guard rail. A passenger, Yeena Keisling, 52, of Shamokin, was transferred to Hershey Medical Center with an apparent broken leg, minor cuts and scrapes.
Haupt, who was uninjured, was cited with failure to stay in the proper lane.
