Two-vehicle crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a 7:38 a.m. crash Thursday at the intersection of Route 61 and 16th Street.

Police patrolman Chad Yoder reported a 1997 Oldsmobile sedan, driven by Koehler Yordy, 19, of 41 Gearhart Road, Watsontown, was traveling north on Route 61 and following a 1999 Ford F-150 truck driven by Todd Deroba, 24, of 662 Spruce St., Kulpmont. Police said Deroba came to a stop and Yordy failed to stop in time, striking Deroba's rear bumper.

The drivers and Yordy's passenger, Brittany Samms, 18, of Shamokin, were not injured in the crash. Yordy's vehicle was severely damaged and had to be towed from the scene. The accident is under investigation and charges are pending.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Joan Klinger, 55, of 709 Penn St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Terry Ketchem with a felony offense of retail theft for allegedly attempting to steal a bag of mozzarella sticks and a book from Walmart on Route 61 on March 13.

Ketchem said Klinger was previously charged with the same offense numerous times, which resulted in the felony.

Code violations

COAL TOWNSHIP - Thomas E. Broscious, of 1516 Pulaski Ave., was cited Wednesday and Thursday by township code enforcement officer Chris Petrovich for not repairing the roof of his residence, which has several holes and a broken and rotted roof covering. Thursday marked the third straight day Broscious was cited for the offenses.

Released from hospital

COAL TOWNSHIP - Tara Venna, of Kulpmont, who was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday on Route 61 near Walmart, underwent emergency room treatment at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville before being released.

Patrolman Terry Ketchem reported Christi Finamore, of Mount Carmel, who was making a left turn into Walmart from the northbound lane of Route 61, turned into the path of Venna's 2012 Lexus, causing the accident. Finamore, who was operating a 2006 Saturn sport utility vehicle, was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way. She escaped injury.

DUI

WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP - Dennis Frederick Ashby, 54, of Milton, was charged Tuesday by state police at Milton with driving under the influence and related offenses in connection with a March 6 accident in the parking lot of the Sublicious Sub Shop, 5140 State Route 405.

Criminal mischief

MCEWENSVILLE - Robert William Sipe Jr., 40, of McEwensville, was cited by state police at Milton for criminal mischief for allegedly smashing an Acer laptop computer on the kitchen floor at the Susquehanna House along Susquehanna Trail at 10:13 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said Sipe smashed the computer owned by Tyree H. Morrison, 22, of McEwensville, after becoming upset when his lunch was not properly prepared.
