Forgery
SHAMOKIN - State police at Stonington continue to investigate a forged check used to get money from a high school organization Oct. 28.
Police say a known suspect, not identified by police, endorsed a check for $300 from the account of the Line Mountain Fall Cheerleading Boosters while forging the signature of the victim, Laurie Ann Hoy, 51, of Herndon. Police say the suspect then deposited the check into a personal checking account at a bank in Shamokin.
Harassment
RIVERSIDE - Erin Hackenberg, of Selinsgrove, was charged with harassment by state police at Stonington after a 2 a.m. incident Tuesday at 171 D&H Ave., Riverside. Hackenberg allegedly struck Brian Webb, 35, of Riverside, in the face, causing an injury.
DUI
SUNBURY - A city man was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a traffic stop at 8:06 p.m. Monday.
State police at Stonington said Jay Kessler, 54, of Snydertown Road, Sunbury, was stopped for a traffic violation near Second Street and Raspberry Avenue and was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Code violations
COAL TOWNSHIP - Code enforcement officer Chris Petrovich cited the following individuals for building code violations:
- George Atiyeh, owner of Apartments and Acquistions, LP, 1102 Fullerton Ave., Allentown, for allowing 1050 1/2 W. Arch St. to be occupied without an occupancy permit and for failing to report any change in the property's occupancy status.
- Thomas E. Broscious, of 1516 Pulaski Ave., was cited twice for not repairing the roof of his residence, which has several holes and a broken and rotted roof covering.
Burglary
COAL TOWNSHIP - Kimberly A. Olearnick, 27, of 240 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Joshua Wynn with criminal trespass, burglary and theft involving a Feb. 20 burglary at the home of Andrea Taylor, 1726 W. Chestnut St.
Police said Olearnick stole $30 in change from the residence.
Burglary II
MOUNT CARMEL - Michael E. Begis, 28, and Casey Sue Kern, 27, both of 126 N. Locust St., Mount Carmel, were charged by Patrolman Jason Drumheller with burglary, criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal conspiracy to commit criminal trespass, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy to commit simple assault and simple assault relating to a March 6 disturbance at 50 N. Maple St.
Begis also was charged with criminal mischief.
According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Kern and Begis entered the apartment of John Petrousky, where Begis allegedly punched the resident in the forehead and slammed his 26-inch Emerson television off its stand, causing it to break.
Retail theft
KULPMONT - Patrolman Joshua Pastucka charged Eric John Janoka, 33, of 622 Scott St., Apt. C, Kulpmont, with retail theft.
Janoka is accused of stealing items valued at $70.57 from Fuel-On at 600 Chestnut St. Saturday.
DUI
KULPMONT - Joseph Victor Payne, 29, of 916 E. Chestnut St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Patrick McAndrew with driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and failure to drive in a single lane after a three-vehicle accident early Friday morning in the 900 block of Chestnut Street.
Police said Payne refused to submit to chemical testing.
