One-vehicle accident
UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - A Shamokin driver and his juvenile passenger escaped injuries when they struck a deer at 6:10 p.m. Jan. 25 on Route 61, according to state police at Stonington.
Trooper Girard Hughes said Quinn M. Yeager, 22, was traveling south in a 2005 Chrysler Sebring 427 feet west of Carroll Road when the animal ran across the road, and Yeager was unable to avoid hitting it with the left front of the vehicle.
After impact, Yeager safely stopped the car facing south on the west side of Route 61, and the deer was found dead in the north lane just south of the impact zone, police said.
Both Yeager and the 16-year-old Shamokin male passenger were wearing their seatbelt, and they were not injured, police said.
Aurand's Towing removed the car from the scene.
