Vehicles, gun stolen
ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington continue to investigate a rash of vehicle thefts Friday and Saturday in the area of Route 890 in Rockefeller Township.
Police say that between 7 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, unknown persons entered three unlocked vehicles, owned by David J. Leib, of 1208 W. Mountain Road, Paxinos; Michael J. Stahl, 37, of 392 Trout Pond Road, Paxinos, and David W. Mertz, of 120 Cherry St., Paxinos, and drove them for short distances. The thieves then intentionally crashed two of the three stolen vehicles.
A Winchester West Point Model 435 .22 Caliber Long Rifle with a painted walnut stock and approximately 50 rounds of ammunition were stolen from one of the vehicles. Police say four other vehicles were rummaged through, but nothing was found to be taken.
