Vandalism
MANDATA - Robert Earnest Logan, 19, of Shamokin RD, was charged by state police at Stonington with institutional vandalism and disorderly conduct for removing a sealed container of pepper spray from a metal lock box at about 2 p.m. Monday and spraying it at the ceiling of a classroom occupied by 12 students and three teachers at Line Mountain High School.
Police said one student was affected by the spray and treated by a nurse.
Police said Logan is a student at Line Mountain High School.
Driver escapes injury
LOWER MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - Hunter B. Lewis, 23, of Dornsife, escaped injury in a one-car accident Monday morning on Route 147 near township route 319.
State police at Stonington reported Lewis was driving 1999 Volkswagen Jetta south at 5:50 a.m. when the car exited the right side of the highway and struck a snow pile. The Jetta then crossed into the northbound lane and hit an embankment on the east side of the road, causing it to roll over. It stopped on its roof in the northbound lane.
Burglary charges
MOUNT CARMEL - Robert Phillip Rath, 38, of 21 N. Locust St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Lt. Chris Buhay with burglary, criminal trespass, illegally possessing a firearm, theft and receiving stolen property.
According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Rath is accused of stealing a .32-caliber pistol and medication from the residence of Joseph Durovick, 23 N. Locust St., between Nov. 11 and Nov. 22.
Rath was arraigned Monday by Jones and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.
Retail theft
SHAMOKIN - Kristen Thomas, 24, of 10 N. Marshall St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. Bryan Primerano for retail theft for allegedly stealing $8.42 worth of merchandise from the Dollar General on East Independence Street at 4:06 p.m. Tuesday.
