Man charged in gun theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - Collin Scicchitano, 18, of 1798 Clinton Ave., was charged by Coal Township Police in the case of a stolen handgun found Monday.
Police charged Scicchitano after he was found to be in possession of a .357 Magnum without a permit, and later learned the gun was stolen from a residence in the western section of Coal Township.
Police took him into custody at 3:25 p.m. Monday and arraigned him before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, on charges of firearms not to be carried without a license, theft, and receiving stolen property. He was committed to Northumberland County Prison on $20,000 cash bail.
Theft from a vehicle
COAL TOWNSHIP - John Shepard, of 1653 Tioga St., reported to police that sometime between 3 p.m. Sunday and 4:30 a.m. Monday, about $9 in money was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in the 1600 block of Tioga Street.
Hit and run
COAL TOWNSHIP - Travis Sobotor, 25, of 410 Cypress St., reported to township police that sometime between 8 and 10 p.m. Sunday, someone struck his 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, causing damage to the front bumper, while the vehicle was parked in the Brewser's SportsGrille parking lot.

Washer parts stolen
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police are investigating the theft of washer parts from the K&S Distributors appliance store sometime between 12:15 p.m. Friday and noon Monday.
Robert Berkheiser, of K&S, reported to police that someone removed approximately 12 knobs from various washers from behind the business, and that the top of a Hotpoint washer and its agitator was stolen.

Vehicles entered
COAL TOWNSHIP - Lisa Krieger, of 1220 Hemlock St., reported to police that sometime between 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:45 a.m. Monday, someone entered her Chevrolet Cobalt parked near her residence and removed a small amount of change from inside the vehicle.
Krieger also reported that someone entered her 2002 Jaguar, but nothing was removed from the vehicle. Anyone with informaton on the theft is asked to contact Coal Township Police.
Packages stolen
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police continue to investigate the theft of several packages from a trailer's porch last week.
Ronald Nalewak, 69, of 1800 Tioga St., Trailer 10, reported that sometime between Sept. 9 and Sept. 16 someone opened two packages that were left on his porch by the mailman and stole a 14-carat diamond cat pendant, valued at $106.50 and two switchblade knives, valued at $70.

Jacket stolen
COAL TOWNSHIP - Steven Dodge, of 122 Second St., Coal Township, informed police that someone removed a black and white North Face jacket, valued at $100, and $10 in change from his girlfriend's 2011 Toyota Corolla while it was parked near their residence. The break-in occurred between 8 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday. Anyone with information is asked to contact Coal Township Police.
