Four injured

COAL TOWNSHIP - Four local residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident late Wednesday night on Route 54 near the Coal Township/Ralpho Township line.

Coal Township police reported James Giles, 43, of 225 E. Center St., Elysburg, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet west at 10:10 p.m. when for an unknown reason his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2012 Subaru driven east on the highway by Mary Ziegler, 26, of 123 Montana Drive, Kulpmont.

Police said Giles, his passenger, Olivia Giles, 14, Ziegler and her passenger, Rosalie Ziegler, 62, of 739 Pine St., Kulpmont, were transported by AREA Services Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

James Giles and Rosalie Ziegler were listed in serious condition late Thursday afternoon. Olivia Giles and Mary Ziegler underwent emergency room treatment before being released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Giles' vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed by Jeff's Towing. Ziegler's car also sustained heavy damage and was towed by Anthracite Towing.

The accident remains under investigation.

Liquor law violation

RANSHAW - Brady Fire Association, 700 Maple St., was cited Aug. 1 by the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for sales to non-members on May 4.

The charge will be brought before an administrative law judge who has the authority to impose penalties ranging from $50 to $1,000 for minor offenses and up to $5,000 for more serious offenses. In addition, the judge can also impose a license suspension or revocation of the license based on the severity of the charge.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Ann D. Stark, 76, of 23 S. Hickory St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Matthew Filarski with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, following a vehicle too closely and careless driving involving a June 17 accident on Route 54 between Midway Performance and SOS Metals.

Police reported Stark had a blood-alcohol content of .095 percent.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Cody J. Shustack, 20, of 947 Spruce St., Kulpmont, was charged by Patrolman Kelly Campbell with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol while being a minor, operating a vehicle with alcohol in his system while being a minor, fleeing or attempting to elude police, resisting arrest, operating an ATV on a street or highway and driving without insurance.

The charges relate to a June 2 incident on Route 2038 in Beaverdale.

Police said Shustack had a blood-alcohol content of .165 percent.

Obstructs law

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Daniel Politza charged Corrine L. Dietrich, 37, of 9 N. Fifth St., Minersville, with obstructing administration of the law, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness relating to a June 30 vehicle stop on Route 901 near Locust Summit.

DUI

ELYSBURG - Ralpho Township Patrolman Christopher Grow charged Jessica N. Smith, 26, of 336 Main St., Ranshaw, with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol relating to an April 6 vehicle stop on West Valley Avenue near McDonald's.

Police said Smith had a blood-alcohol content of .187 percent.

Public drunkenness

MOUNT CARMEL - Mary J. Karstetter, 45, of 211 E. Avenue, Mount Carmel, was charged by Cpl. David Donkochik with public drunkenness and two counts of disorderly conduct involving a July 9 disturbance in the 200 block of East Avenue.

Bad check

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Coleen M. Lowry, 31, of 465 Mountain Road, Shamokin, was charged by Sgt. Chris Kreisher with issuing a bad check totaling $319.90 on April 23 at Miller's Gas and Oil on Route 61.

Theft charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Hoyt A. Norris, 21, of 475 W. Saylor St., Atlas, was charged by Patrolman Matthew Dillman with theft, criminal conspiracy to commit theft, receiving stolen property and corruption of minors.

Norris is accused of stealing a black Nissan sedan owned by Peter Long, of Coal Township, on June 17 from the 300 block of South Currant Street. Police said a 15-year-old male also was charged in the theft of the car that was later involved in a hit-and-run accident.

Threats

MOUNT CARMEL - Roger A. Kramer, 20, of 104 S. Peach St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Lt. Christopher Buhay with terroristic threats, simple assault, tampering with evidence, disorderly conduct and harassment relating to a July 22 disturbance in the 100 block of South Peach Street.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Kramer began yelling from his porch at John Wilhelm Jr. while he was walking home with his 8-year-old son and a 15-year-old relative. Wilhelm told police Kramer produced a black handgun and threatened to shoot him.

Police said Kramer, who repeatedly yelled obscenities at Wilhelm, kept waving the gun around. Wilhelm told police Kramer claimed to be a member of the Crips gang and threatened to harm him.

Wilhelm, who doesn't know Kramer, said he then left the scene because he feared for his own safety and the safety of his son and relative.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL - Miki L. Campbell, 32, of 435 Center St., Tharptown, was charged by Patrolman William Adamski with driving under the influence of alcohol, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct relating to a July 20 incident in the first block of South Maple Street.

Police said Campbell refused to submit to a chemical test.

Multiple offenses

MOUNT CARMEL - Patrolman Shane Reamer has charged Kyle J. Knopp, 20, of 331 W. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, with theft, receiving stolen property, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, driving under the influence of alcohol, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, underage drinking and criminal mischief.

Police said Knopp, who refused to submit to a blood test, is accused of stealing of bicycle, riding it while intoxicated, throwing garbage cans and kicking garbage around Town Park, cursing and struggling with police while they attempted to handcuff him.

Police said the incidents occurred July 28 at East Third and South Chestnut streets.

Bad check

MOUNT CARMEL - Patrolman Kevin Katch has charged David P. Huber, 30, of 702 E. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, with issuing a bad check in the amount of $267.33 to Eureka on June 19, 2012.

Theft by deception

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Carmen P. Papaleo, 47, of 225 W. Mulberry St., Shamokin, was charged by Sgt. Chris Kreisher with theft by deception, receiving stolen property and bad checks for allegedly issuing a bad check totaling $368.50 on April 4.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - David M. Brown, 29, of 29 S. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Brian Carnuccio with driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and driving under suspension in connection with a June 7 vehicle stop on Route 2032 at the Choice Discount Store.

Police reported Brown had nicotine, cotinine, nordiazepam and morphine in his blood system.

No injuries

KELLY TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday on Route 15 in this Union County township.

State police at Milton said a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Cyle J. Schriver, 27, of Trevorton, was traveling south on Route 15 in the right travel lane while a 2005 Mercury Montego, driven by Merlin J. Zimmerman, 92, of Lewisburg, was traveling south on Route 15 in the left travel lane.

The crash occurred when Schriver's vehicle struck the Montego in the left rear bumper area with its right front bumper, causing disabling damage to both vehicles. Schriver, Zimmerman and Zimmerman's passenger, Juliann Zimmerman, 85, of Lewisburg, were not injured. Police said that Schriver was cited for careless driving.

Criminal mischief

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington report that someone poured an unknown substance, believed to be syrup, on the back window of a vehicle owned by a 59-year-old female from Sunbury while it was parked on Carter Road between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
