Guard assaulted
COAL TOWNSHIP - An inmate at SCI-Coal Township will be charged following the assault of a corrections guard at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday.
State police at Stonington said Sgt. Derek Nejedly, 43, was struck twice in the head by inmate Michael Lassiter, 31, during an incident in the dining hall. Nejedly was transported to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital where he was treated and released.
Identity theft
MOUNT CARMEL - Barry T. Adams, 30, of 111 N. Market St., Mount Carmel, was charged with identity theft and related crimes following an investigation into ordered cell phones in March.
According to court documents, Adams allegedly used the Social Security number of David Urbanowicz to open up cell phone accounts from three different cell phone companies, running up bills totaling $1,906.61.
Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Matthew Dillman charged Adams with four counts of access device fraud, and two counts each of identity theft and theft by unlawful taking or disposition. He was arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and placed in Northumberland County Prison on $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17.
Disorderly conduct
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Rodney Cossari, 24, of 128 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with disorderly conduct following an incident on July 3 at the intersection of Route 901 and Quarry Road.
According to police, Cossari allegedly was yelling and jumping on the hood of the vehicle of April Heckman, 28, of the same address, while she was sitting in the vehicle. Cossari then took her car keys and cell phone and pulled her out of her vehicle. Heckman began walking away from Cossari, who then returned her keys and phone before both left the area.
Aggravated assault
MOUNT CARMEL - Nicholas P. Koons, 27, of 244 S. Oak St., second floor apartment, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment following an incident at 520 E. Fifth St. at 10:28 p.m. June 16.
Mount Carmel Borough Police were called to the scene for an assault. The victim, Robert Longo Jr., had a deep laceration on his right shoulder and cuts on the back of his neck.
A witness told police that Koons came to the residence looking for his property and then pulled a knife on Longo, but the knife was taken from Koons. Koons allegedly struck Longo in the back of the head with a dinner plate.
Koons was charged by borough police Patrolman Jason Drumheller and was placed in Northumberland County Prison on July 3 on $20,000 bail.
Simple assault
MOUNT CARMEL - Police charged Wilburn H. Denman, 45, of 28 Bower St., Montgomery, with simple assault, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child following an incident at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 45 N. Maple St.
Borough Police Patrolman Kevin Katch reported in court documents that Denman allegedly pushed the victim, Robin Brown, against a stove in the Maple Street residence while Brown was holding her four-month-old goddaughter. Denman then allegedly threw Brown against the stove, causing a bruise on her right arm.
Denman was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and placed in Northumberland County Prison on $15,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for a later date.
Theft of money
MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police charged Jericho S. Linkchorst, 20, of 415 E. Avenue, with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling at night after he allegedly removed several payments for garbage services from residences throughout the borough between May 22 and 30.
He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, Tuesday and placed in Northumberland County Prison on $15,000 bail. A preliminary hearing on the case is scheduled for Thursday, July 18.
PFA violation
ATLAS - Adam M. Hendricks, of 451 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, was charged with indirect criminal contempt by Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Matthew Filarski following an incident at 8:45 a.m. June 9.
Police report in court documents that Hendricks violated a protection of abuse order by being near the home of Debra Palestis, on West Saylor Street, and made threats to blow up the home.
A preliminary hearing on the charges will be held in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury.
