Strikes tree
HERNDON - A 17-year-old Shamokin male was issued a traffic citation after crashing along Herndon Road in Jackson Township about 6 a.m. Saturday.
State police at Stonington said the teen was driving a 1996 Chevrolet S10 east and while rounding a right curve he crossed into the oncoming lane, exited the roadway and struck a tree with the pickup's front end.
The teen made arrangements to have the disabled vehicle removed without reporting the incident to authorities, state police said. He did not report having been injured.
He was cited for failing to drive within his lane of traffic.

PAXINOS - A Shamokin man will be cited for careless driving after he allegedly struck a traffic sign and left the scene, according to state police at Stonington.
Michael T. Karpinski, 22, was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition south on Route 61 about 2:40 p.m. Thursday when he allegedly lost control, drove onto the median and struck a "No U-turn" sign near the Route 487 intersection. He continued south and pulled into Masser's Farm Market to assess any damage before driving into Shamokin, where city police stopped his vehicle at Jack Williams Tire, police said.
Karpinski reportedly told police he lost control after reaching down to turn on the vehicle's air conditioner. According to police, he said he left the scene because "he was shaken" and wasn't sure who to call about the crash.
Karpinski sustained a minor injury. A passenger, Christopher E. Henley, 21, of Shamokin, was unharmed. Both were wearing seat belts.
