Assault
COAL TOWNSHIP - A township man faces charges after allegedly assaulting another man who told police he was giving the accused a ride home early Thursday.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Coal Township Detective Jeff Brennan, Jared Seedor, of 1316 W. Willow St., is accused of repeatedly punching Eric Baskin in the head, face and ribs after Seedor exited Baskin's truck at State and Bay streets at about 12:30 a.m.
The truck's driver-side door handle was broken, Baskin told police, forcing him to roll down its window and reach the outside door handle to free himself from the truck while he attempted to deflect the alleged attack. Seedor initially gave chase before backing off when Baskin ran to nearby homes, knocking on doors for someone to let him inside to call 911.
When police arrived, the engine to Baskin's vehicle was still running and injuries to his face and ear were visible, the complaint states.
Seedor, 29, is charged with simple assault and harassment. He was arraigned Thursday before magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin, and committed to Northumberland County Prison on $20,000 bail, which he has since posted. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
