EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - A Kulpmont man faces charges after resisting arrest and attacking a police officer along Gap Road on Oct. 11.
According to court documents filed by Trooper Samuel Edwards of the Pennsylvania State Police, Stonington Barracks, he was dispatched to Gap Road at 2:30 a.m. for a person resisting arrest. Upon arrival, Edwards spoke to Butler Township Police Patrolman Shawn Butler, who said he encountered the individual, Eric J. Janoka, 32, of 1328 Scott St., Kulpmont, sitting on the guardrail naked. When Butler approached Janoka, the Kulpmont man allegedly pounced on the officer and a struggle ensued.
After being taken into custody, Janoka began apologizing and told officers he was under the influence of a bath salt and meth mixture and was hiding a bag of heroin in his rectum, according to police.
Edwards took custody of the suspect after a search showed that he was wanted on a warrant from the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office. Janoka was taken to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where a medical exam was conducted, but no substances were found on his person.
Janoka was charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and open lewdness and was cited for harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday, Dec. 12, before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.
