Scam alert
ATLAS - Mount Carmel Township Police are warning area residents of a potential telephone scam.
Police Chief Brian Hollenbush said a telephone call is being placed from the number (206)855-3323 and the caller claims to be calling from the "grants department" in Washington, D.C.
The caller says the call recipient has won a $7,000 grant and must send $315 to the Federal Reserve Bank in New York, Hollenbush said.
A township resident who received such a call said the caller hung up when asked if the call was a scam, Hollenbush said.
Hollenbush urges all area residents to not give personal or financial information over the phone. Anyone who receives a call they believe is a scam is urged to contact the police.
