Driver airlifted
GILBERTON - Sheldon J. Buscavage, 51, of Frackville, was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville Friday night after suffering serious injuries in a one-car crash along Gold Star Highway (Route 924).
State police at Frackville reported Buscavage was driving a 2000 Dodge Stratus south in Gilberton near Catawissa Street at 10:05 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a left curve and lost control of his car, which went off the west berm and struck a rock embankment. The car overturned once across both southbound lanes and came to rest on its wheels straddling the concrete median.
Police said Buscavage was not wearing a seat belt. His car was towed from the scene. Charges are pending.
Machinery vandalized
ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Police here reported someone started and moved heavy equipment used for mining operations at John Shingara's mining area off Gap Road in an area known as "Smirf's Pond" between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
Police said the windshield of a Moxy articulated haul truck was kicked out, causing $1,000 damage.
