Sledgehammer used in break-ins

JORDAN TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington are investigating two break-ins at homes in Jordan Township that occurred between Sept. 13 and 16.

Police report the first break-in occurred at the home of William Hartman, of Winding Hollow Road, who was not home at the time.

The robber is also believed to have broken into the home of Shallon Tomlinson, of Hebe Bypass Road, at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 15. Tomlinson was home and fled the residence until state police arrived.

In both cases, the suspect, a white male, approximately 60 years of age with dark hair wearing a gray, light colored striped shirt, blue paints and operating a silver sedan, attempted to enter the residence by smashing a door with a sledge hammer.

Anyone with information regarding suspicious activity is asked to contact police.

Scattering rubbish

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Joseph P. Malacavage, of Paxinos, reported to state police at Stonington that sometime between Aug. 25 and Sept. 14, someone dumped multiple loads of garbage at a property Malacavage owns on Olive Road at Snydertown Road, Shamokin Township.

Drunkenness

COAL TOWNSHIP - Frederick Hartman, 33, of 35 Sherman St., will be cited for public drunkenness for an incident in the area of Pulaski and Logan Streets on Wednesday.

Coal Township police said Hartman was allegedly staggering up the street pushing a bicycle and was almost struck by a motorist. Police said they located Hartman and said they determined he was under the influence of alcohol or another substance.

Guns, laptop stolen

LOWER MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington are investigating a break-in sometime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sept. 15 at a home on Mahantongo Creek Road, Dalmatia.

Police say someone used a blunt object to force their way into the home of Sharon and Robert Shetterly through a secured rear door. The burglar stole two firearms and a laptop.

City Hall hit-run

SHAMOKIN - City police are looking for information on a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Lincoln Street near City Hall at 12:54 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect's vehicle may be a dark in color sedan with damage to the front passenger side, which struck a parked Toyota pickup truck and caused extensive damage to the truck and a parking meter.

Teens 'exploring'

UPPER PAXTON TOWNSHIP - Andrew Harman, 19, and Kayleen Weibley, 18, both of Halifax, were charged with criminal trespass by state police at Lykens.

Police said at 3:08 a.m. Sunday, the two entered an abandoned house owned by Russell Kolody, of Shamokin, on Klinger Road, Upper Paxton Township. When neighbors saw lights in the house, police were called. The two teens said they did not know who owned the house and said they were "exploring."

The pair were arraigned at the Dauphin County Judicial Center and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

High grass

COAL TOWNSHIP - Kayla Shaffer, of 1829 Trevorton Road, Coal Township, was cited twice by township code enforcement officer Chris Petrovich on Tuesday for violations of the township's ordinance on high brush, grass or weeds, and for an accumulation of garbage on a side porch and yard.

Scooter stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - James Coleman III, of 1508 W. Arch St., told police someone stole a gas-powered Razor scooter from the front of his residence between 5 and 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. The scooter is red with a black seat with duct tape on the gas tank. Anyone with information is asked to contact Coal Township police at 570-644-0333.

Drug offenses

ATLAS - Bryan Scott Shedaker, 30, of Pittsburgh, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police with hindering apprehension, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of a controlled substance relating to a June 10 incident at 149 E. Saylor St.

Police reported Shedaker was found in possession of a glass smoking device, a clear light bulb containing burnt residue, several clear and blue Ziploc bags commonly used to package illegal substances, a black travel case with several syringes and a clear plastic container with black electrical tape around it and a clear liquid inside it.

Police said Damien Michael Slovick, of 149 E. Saylor St., Atlas, was previously charged with the same offenses. An arrest warrant has been issued for Kaitlyn Ann Else, of 731 Scott St., Trevorton, in connection with the same incident.

Stalking

COAL TOWNSHIP - Melissa Sulick, 48, of 155 Alpha Ave., Elysburg, has been charged by Coal Township police with two counts of stalking and one count of harassment involving two criminal complaints.

Sulick is charged by Patrolman Chad Yoder with making seven telephone calls to Michael Timco, of 817 W. Independence St., Coal Township, and arriving at his home between Aug. 29 and Wednesday.

Sulick also is charged by Cpl. Terry Ketchem Jr. with stalking Timco by traveling to and from his residence to Maine Fire Company and waiting for him Thursday.

The defendant was arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to Northumberland County Prison on $2,000 bail on all charges.

Two injured

TURBOT TOWNSHIP - Two Watsontown men suffered moderate injuries in an accident late Friday night on the I-180 off-ramp just north of I-80.

State police at Milton reported John R. Nancarvis, 46, was driving a 1993 Plymouth Voyager south on I-180 toward the off-ramp for I-80 westbound at 11:45 p.m. when he failed to maintain control of his vehicle upon entering a right curve in the road. The Voyager then slid sideways southwest and struck guard rails along the left edge of the road.

The Voyager continued southwest down an embankment and overturned before coming to rest on its driver's side on an adjacent I-80 off-ramp to Route 147 south.

Police reported Nancarvis and his passenger, John E. Young, 41, suffered moderate injuries and were transported by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Both men underwent emergency room treatment before being released, according to a nursing supervisor.

Police said Nancarvis didn't possess a valid driver's license and fled from the scene. He was cited for careless driving and faces possible additional charges.

Bad check

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - Donna Carl, 38, of 238 S. Sixth St., Shamokin, was cited by Trooper Mark Adams of state police at Stonington for issuing a bad check in the amount of $329.58 to Sunbury Animal Hospital on April 13.

Teen injured

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington reported a 17-year-old Sunbury female suffered a minor injury in a one-car accident Thursday morning on Mile Post Road.

Police said the teen was driving a 1995 Dodge Neon south at 6:30 a.m. when she lost control of her car, which traveled across the road and struck an embankment with its left front end. The auto then traveled along the embankment before coming back onto the road on its right side in the northbound lane. The vehicle rolled back onto its wheels and struck the embankment again before coming to rest.

Police did not identify the driver because of her age.

Radiators removed

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington are investigating a burglary at a barn near 1744 Shamrock Road owned by Frank Leroy Martz, 59, of 231 Kaboodle Road, Danville.

Police said thieves removed four cast iron radiators between Sept. 13 and Thursday.

Condition updates

DANVILLE - Jillian Yackera, 32, of 225 A St., Girardville, who suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle accident Saturday morning at the intersection of Route 61 and the entrance to Walmart Supercenter, remained in serious condition Sunday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Yacekera's boyfriend, John Weidensaul, 39, of the same address, who was the driver of the Dodge Stratus involved in the accident, was discharged from Geisinger on Sunday after being admitted in fair condition, according to a nursing supervisor.

Furnishing alcohol

SUNBURY - Christopher James Johnson, 22, of 23 S. Third St., Sunbury, was charged by Trooper James Yankovich of state police at Stonington with furnishing alcohol to minors at his residence Sept. 19.

Medication stolen

MAYBERRY TOWNSHIP - Jason Michael Brown, 28, of 360 Sharp Ridge Road, told state police at Stonington that someone removed prescription medication from his upstairs bathroom Wednesday or Thursday.

Sex charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - Dustin Gearhart, 26, of 1823 Sunbury Road, Selinsgrove, was arraigned Monday on a charge of statutory sexual assault before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

According to court documents filed by Coal Township Police Det. Jeffrey Brennan, Gearhart picked up a 15-year-old female on April 3 for a ride in his vehicle. The two went to an area known as the Third Patch in Coal Township where the 15-year-old said they had consensual sex.

Gearhart was videoarraigned before Gembic and placed in prison on $5,000 straight bail.

DUI arraignment

COAL TOWNSHIP - A man charged in 2009 with driving under the influence for an accident in Coal Township was arraigned Monday on the charges.

Brian Donner, 30, of 507 W. Mulberry St., Shamokin, was charged with driving under the influence and careless driving following the investigation into a Feb. 13, 2009, accident in the area of Lynn and Fir streets. After the crash, Donner was treated for minor injuries at the then Shamokin Area Community Hospital and blood drawn at the time showed his blood alcohol level to be .155 percent.

He was arraigned and released on $2,500 unsecured bail.

Pedestrian accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - Lynn Session, 52, of 332 S. Seventh St., Shamokin, suffered minor injuries following a pedestrian accident in the Walmart parking lot at 5:04 p.m. Sunday.

Township police said Session was talking in the parking lot when she was struck by a mirror of a 2005 Chevrolet van driven by Andrea Taylor, 67, of 149 Hillview Drive, Big Flats, N.Y. Sessions suffered a shoulder injury but refused medical treatment at the scene.

Stroller stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Sherry Dampman, 38, of Park Avenue, reported to police someone removed a stroller from her residence between 9:45 p.m. Friday and 2:20 p.m. Saturday.

The item is described as a double, black baby stroller, model City Mini GT. Anyone with information on the stroller is asked to contact Coal Township Police.

Dog law violation

COAL TOWNSHIP - Township police cited Courtney Snyder, 25, of 1645 Tioga St., Coal Township, for failure to confine her dogs after an incident Friday.

Police said Snyder failed to confine two dogs owned by her and the dogs went onto another property in the 1600 block of East Webster Street. Police said Snyder had been warned about not letting her dogs run free following a previous incident.

Public drunkenness

COAL TOWNSHIP - Joseph Whartnaby, 51, of 7150 Erdrick St., Philadelphia, was cited for public drunkenness after being found sleeping in the street in the 1400 block of Pulaski Avenue at 2:49 a.m. Sept. 19. Police said Whartnaby was unable to stand, sit or walk without assistance and was unable to communicate with anyone.

Whartnaby was released to friends.

Lewdness

SHAMOKIN - Adam L. Moore, 29, of 229 W. Sunbury St., Shamokin, was arraigned Monday on charges of open lewdness, disorderly conduct fighting and disorderly conduct offensive condition after an incident at Market and Walnut streets at 4:15 p.m. Sept. 21.

Police said Moore was attempting to put his arms around the girlfriend of Albert Loss when Loss warned him to stop. Moore removed his shirt and took a "stance to fight." He also exposed himself while standing in the park plot on Market Street while several children and adults were in the area. He then went to his vehicle, retrieved a large metal ratchet and walked toward Loss before stopping and returning to his vehicle to drive away.

Police said Moore was not at his home when officers stopped there at 4:30 p.m. Moore arrived at the house at 4:50 p.m., slurring his words and unable to follow officer commands. Moore, who is on parole, was taken into custody and given to Northumberland County Probation officers. He was transported to Northumberland County Prison.

He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $3,500 bail.

Aggravated assault

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - A Sunbury man suffered a minor injury after an assault in the area of Beck Road at 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

State police at Stonington report that Ralph Treaster, 43, of 238 Kline Road, Sunbury, was assaulted by an unknown male that was wielding a Maglite-style flashlight, and then threatened him with a pistol.

Harassment

GIRARDVILLE - Colleen C. Kroh, 51, of Ashland, was charged with harassment by state police at Frackville, for an incident in the area of 252 W. Main St., Girardville at 11:43 p.m. Monday.

Police say Kroh was involved in an argument, when the victim, Theodore Stang, 26, of Girardville, tried to stop the argument. Police allege Kroh struck Stang in the back of the head and once in the face, causing redness.

Bad checks

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington charged two individuals with writing bad checks to the Sunbury Animal Hospital in two separate incidents.

- Donna Carl, 38, of 238 S. Sixth St., Shamokin, passed a bad check of $329.58 to the hospital on April 13. Attempts were made to have Carl make good on the check, but no money was collected.

- Paul E. Bucher, 48, of 103 N. 12th St., Sunbury, passed a bad check on May 1. The check was returned to the hospital and Bucher failed to make good on the monies owed.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Benjamin J. Apfelbaum, of Sunbury.

Code violations

COAL TOWNSHIP - Two township residents were cited by code officer Chris Petrovich for separate violations.

Marcella J. Walter, of 872 W. Pine St., was cited for high grass and weeds on three lots on Pine Street on Sept. 24.

Richard C. Kerstetter, of 1010 E. Chestnut St., was cited for an occupancy violation at his home on Monday. He was cited for the same violation on Sept. 4 and Aug. 14.

Indecent exposure

MOUNT CARMEL - Robert M. Daniels II, 25, of 120 Columbia Ave., Atlas, was charged by Lt. Christopher Buhay with indecent exposure, open lewdness, public drunkenness and resisting arrest in connection with an incident at 3:44 a.m. Sunday at the gazebo in Town Park.

Police said Daniels was found with his pants down around his ankles and his genitals exposed. Police reported Daniels began drooling and fondling himself and initially refused to acknowledge Buhay before resisting arrest. Police were forced to carry Daniels to a cruiser and also had to carry him into the police station.

Police found a beer can lying in the park near Daniels, who stated he was drunk.

Multiple charges

SHAMOKIN - A 14-year-old East Cameron Township boy has been charged with Patrolman Scott Weaver with multiple offenses, including felonies for endangering the public, in connection with incidents that occurred Friday.

The officer said the teen has been charged through a juvenile petition with fleeing or eluding and more than 10 other related offenses.

Weaver said the juvenile was driving an all-terrain vehicle erratically on sidewalks and several streets in the Fifth Ward before wedging the ATV between a parked truck and a car driven by Mike Geiswite, of Sunbury Street, Shamokin, in the 500 block of South Pearl Street near Anthracite Provision Co. before speeding away.

Weaver said no injuries occurred, but the truck and car sustained minor damage shortly before 5 p.m.

The officer said the ATV operator fled the scene several times into a wooded area toward Big Mountain before returning to the Fifth Ward as if he was challenging police to catch him. He said the operator may have been under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police searched the area for the driver for a couple hours before apprehending him after he crashed the ATV into Geiswite's car on Pulaski Avenue in the Springfield section of the township. Weaver said Geiswite went looking for the ATV rider after his vehicle was struck on South Pearl Street.

The teen was taken to Northwestern Academy in Coal Township.

Guilty plea

SHAMOKIN - Brenda L. Pomponio, 50, of 120 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to a summary of disorderly conduct Tuesday and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a $100 fine plus costs and make $20 restitution.

Pomponio was charged by Patrolman Scott Weaver with stealing $20 off the bar at Quinny's Pub at Market and Mulberry streets Aug. 21.

A charge of theft was withdrawn.

Phone scam

DALMATIA - State police at Lykens are warning the public about a phone scam that cost a local woman thousands of dollars.

Police said the victim, Mary R. Schaffner, 75, of Dalmatia, received a phone call from a male with a Jamaican accent who informed her she won $5.5 million in the Mega Millions sweepstakes. Between Sept. 19 and 24, Schaffner wired several money orders totaling $2,899 to pay for the taxes and other fees to claim her winnings.

Anyone with information concerning this crime is asked to contact state police at 717-362-8700.

Underage drinking

SHAMOKIN - A 15-year-old Coal Township male, a 16-year-old Shamokin female and a 17-year-old Shamokin male were cited by Shamokin Police Chief Darwin Tobias III for underage drinking and violating the city's curfew ordinance after being found in the 00 block of West Dewart Street at 1:28 a.m. Sept. 25.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Brian K. Donner, 30, of 916 E. Chestnut St., was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct following an incident at Independence and Shamokin streets at 11 p.m. Sept. 22.

Shamokin Police Patrolman Raymond Siko II said Donner was found walking in the middle of the intersection, causing traffic to swerve around him.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - City police Patrolman Mark Costa cited Jarrod Moyle, 40, of 401 N. Rock St., for public drunkenness after being found lying in the street at Water and Rock streets at 2:10 p.m. Sept. 23.

Harassment

SHAMOKIN - Police charged Tabitha Leiby, 23, of 57 Raspberry Hill, with harassment after she allegedly hit another individual in the face twice at her residence at 11 a.m. Aug. 28.

Code violations

SHAMOKIN - City police Cpl. Bryan Primerano cited the following individuals for violating Shamokin City's building codes:

- Anthony M. Venturino, 33, of 150 Bear Path Road, Hamden, Conn., cited Sept. 17 and Sept. 22 for his building at 663 Bear Valley Ave.

- Jhoel Leonardo, of 13201 95th St., South Richmond Hill, N.Y., cited Sept. 25 for his property at 625-627 E. Commerce St.

- Miguel Gonzalez, of 441 18th St., Brooklyn, N.Y., cited Sept. 25 for his property at 415 S. Market St.

Community service set for Saturday

COAL TOWNSHIP - Participants in a community service program coordinated by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Coal Bowl.

Firehouse burger fundraiser planned

SHAMOKIN - The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Emerald Isle Division No. 1, Northumberland County, will host a fundraiser to aid their charitable works Saturday.

Beginning at 4 p.m., the group will be selling "Mayor Yurick's Famous Firehouse Burger" platters and hot dogs at the Independence Fire Company, Market and Arch streets. Takeout platters will also be available. The cost starts at $6 and all proceeds will be used for local causes.

The AOH is an Irish Catholic Fraternal Organization for men. The division, along with two others, began in Northumberland County in the 1920s. After a decades-long hiatus, a new charter was applied for and granted in October 1994. The group is currently accepting new members. Members must have Irish ancestry and be practicing Catholics.

Poet to visit Bucknell

LEWISBURG - Kendel Hippolyte is the 2014-15 Sandra and Gary Sojka Visiting Poet at Bucknell University.

As visiting poet, Hippolyte will read his poetry a 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Stadler Center for Poetry, Bucknell Hall. A reception and book-signing will follow.

At noon that day he will participate in a conversation and Q&A with Stadler Center Director Shara McCallum with time allotted for audience questions. Both events are free and open to the public.

Pleads guilty

MOUNT CARMEL - Robert M. Daniels II, 25, of 120 Columbia Ave., Atlas, pleaded guilty Wednesday to open lewdness and public drunkenness and was ordered to pay $800 in fines plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year.

Additional charges of indecent exposure and resisting arrest were withdrawn.

Daniels was charged by Mount Carmel Lt. Christopher Buhay with exposing himself at Town Park Sunday morning.

DUI on bicycle

MOUNT CARMEL - Christopher Sean Olarry, 25, of 346 W. Third St., Wilburton, faces charges of bicycling without headlights and two counts of driving under the influence after being detained at 12:35 a.m. July 22, according to a criminal complaint filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell at Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones' office.

Olarry was stopped because he was riding north on Route 61 at night without any front or rear lighting, which is required by law, according to the complaint. Campbell said Olarry smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech and had red and glassy eyes. A blood test revealed a blood alcohol content of .204.

Olarry was arraigned Tuesday and released on $5,000 bail.

Assault, harassment

MOUNT CARMEL - Matthew Steven Dietz, 24, of 129 W. Third St., Second Floor, Mount Carmel, was remanded to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail Tuesday after he was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Cpl. David Donkochik, Dietz became engaged in an altercation and struck his girlfriend's father, Brian Andrewsky, in the face at 315 S. Locust St., Mount Carmel, at approximately 8 p.m. July 23.

Assault, animal cruelty

MOUNT CARMEL - Mark James Derr, 21, with a last known address of 238 S. Grape St., Mount Carmel, was charged with theft, animal cruelty, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats and two counts of simple assault for an incident Oct. 26, 2013, at 325 W. Saylor St., Atlas.

According to Patrolman Matthew Filarski, Derr assaulted his then-girlfriend Danielle Freitag, kicked her dog twice and stole her cell phone.

Derr was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones Wednesday. He was remanded to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Burglary

MOUNT CARMEL - Robert Thomas Chuplis, 36, of 354 W. Main St., Girardville, is facing three felony and two misdemeanor charges filed by Cpl. David Donkochick who said Chuplis broke into 233 N. Park St., Mount Carmel, by removing a window air conditioning unit and stole prescription medications Sept. 20.

According to the criminal complaint, Chuplis knew the resident, Nile Fisher, possessed prescription medications and that she would not be home. He was found shortly before the burglary was discovered attempting to exchange Percocet pills for a ride to Girardville. Percocet and Ativan pills had been taken from Fisher's home.

Fisher said during a phone conversation Chuplis admitted to taking the pills and offered $500 in exchange for Fisher not pressing charges. The call was overheard by Fisher's daughter.

Chuplis was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones Tuesday on charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, possessing a controlled substance, theft and receiving stolen property. He was remanded to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - Charges of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct were filed at Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III against Amichae Young, 33, of 409 E. Packer St., Shamokin.

According to city Patrolman Raymond Siko II, Young was found intoxicated while pushing an unidentified child in a baby carriage around 11 a.m. Sept. 16 near 400 block of East Packer Street. Witnesses observed Young having difficulty walking and nearly overturning the carriage.

Northumberland County Children and Youth Services assisted at the scene.

DUI, suspended license

SHAMOKIN - David J. Swatski, 32, of 126 S. Main St., Herndon, was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, drug paraphernalia and two counts of drug possession.

In the criminal complaint, city Patrolman Shane Mowery said Swatski was found by assisting officer Chris Grow of the Ralpho Township police department unconscious in his vehicle in the westbound lane of the 700 block of Sunbury Street around 2 a.m. Sept. 13. The vehicle was in drive and Swatski's foot was on the brake. Swatski smelled of alcohol and had methadone and a pipe in his possession.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Kathryn M. Emburg, 54, of 40 S. Vine St., was cited by borough police Patrolman Matthew Dillman for disorderly conduct by allowing her dog to bark continuously at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 1.

Dogs at large

MOUNT CARMEL - James E. Doak, 46, of 31 N. Locust St., was cited for violating the dog law by continuously allowing his dog to be unleashed and unsupervised at 5 p.m. Sept. 26. While running free, the dog caused damage to the property of Janelle Williams.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Two borough males, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, were cited for public drunkenness by borough police Patrolman William Adamski related to a 9 a.m. Sept. 23 incident at the Compass Academy, where the two boys allegedly reported for school under the influence of narcotics.

Theft of services

MOUNT CARMEL - Dennis J. Petruskevich, 53, of 6 S. Spruce St., was cited by borough police Cpl. David Donkochik, with theft of services after he allegedly ran an extension cord from a neighbor's property to his home in an attempt to power his home upon the loss of electrical service, without permission.

Fugitive caught

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington report that a fugitive from Missouri was captured Wednesday on a traffic stop on the Veterans Memorial Bridge near Sunbury.

Police report Jerry Gene Sanders Jr., 33, of Selinsgrove, was stopped for a traffic violation on the bridge at 1:06 p.m. Wednesday. A check of his identification showed that he was wanted in Missouri on two felony warrants.

The warrants were confirmed and Sanders was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum, of Sunbury, and placed in Northumberland County Prison awaiting extradition.

Burglary

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - Beth Collins, of Coal Township, reported to state police at Stonington that sometime between Sept. 13 and Oct. 1., someone entered her pop-up camper at the Nikomahs Campground in Upper Augusta Township and removed a portable stove and miscellaneous food items.

Scattering rubbish

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - Michael D. Ditty, 64, of 2846 Hallowing Run Road, Sunbury, was charged by state police at Stonington with scattering rubbish after allegedly intentionally dumping a bag of garbage on Hallowing Run Road at the intersection with Dornsife Mountain Road at 8:11 a.m. Thursday.

Theft-related charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jeffry J. Grassi, 21, of 219 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Edward Purcell with theft, receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy and scattering rubbish.

Police reported Grassi allegedly stole several car rims and vehicle parts valued at approximately $200 from land owned by Kenneth Snyder on Big Mountain Aug. 28 and sold them for $63.37 at Stoneroad Iron and Metal in Paxinos.

Police said Grassi also placed tires that were cut from rims, waste paper, diapers and garbage on Snyder's land.

Forgery

SHAMOKIN - Jesika McCann, 23, of 1008 N. Pearl St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman William Miner with forgery and theft.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, McCann stole a checkbook belonging to Josephine Markle and forged five checks totaling $190 at M&T Bank Oct. 1.

Drug charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - Charges of possession of Tramdal, possession of Clonazepam and criminal trespass were filed by Patrolman Jason Adams against Daniel Malkoski, 18, of 1729 Park Ave., Coal Township.

Police reported Malkoski was found lying asleep face down in a yard at 1035 W. Arch St. shortly after 6 a.m. Sept. 30.

Criminal mischief

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jordan L. Poplaskie, 23, of 3072 Upper Road, Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Edward Purcell with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct for allegedly smashing windows on a 2013 Ford owned by Maria Jones.

Police said the disturbance occurred Aug. 9 at Maple and Poplar streets.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Edward Purcell has filed a retail theft charge against Stefanie L. Mudry, 27, of 147 S. Third St., Shamokin.

Police reported Mudry allegedly stole $535.35 worth of merchandise from Walmart Supercenter Sept. 27.

DUIs

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Edward Purcell charged two men with driving under the influence of alcohol involving a Sept. 21 sobriety checkpoint on Route 225 near Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

- Jacob Snyder, 23, of 1532 Tioga St., Coal Township, was charged with two counts of DUI, driving a vehicle without proper inspection, driving under suspension and driving without the proper license.

Police said Snyder, who was operating a motorcycle at 12:30 a.m., had a blood-alcohol content of .154 percent.

- Jason S. Houtz, 36, of 826 Franklin St., Trevorton, was charged with two counts of DUI and driving without insurance.

Police said Houtz, who was operating a maroon GMC at 2:30 a.m., had a blood-alcohol content of .116 percent.

Wanted man

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police are still searching for James Latshaw, 48, of 12 E. Arch St., Shamokin, after he fled on foot shortly before noon Friday in the 400 block of West Chestnut Street.

Latshaw is wanted on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend, choked her and held a knife to her. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to immediately contact police.

Distributor cited

COAL TOWNSHIP - Champion Beverages, a beer distributor located in the Anthra Plaza, was cited by the state's Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement on Sept. 25 for allegedly failing to maintain records required by law concerning sales and inventory.

Table and chairs stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Vicky Woodland, 57, of 170 E. Dewart St., reported that sometime between Sept. 26 and Oct. 1, a wooden mahogany dining room set she purchased at public auction for $10 on Sept. 26, was stolen from a front porch at 41 Sheridan St., according to township police.

Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police continue to investigate a hit-and-run crash that occurred at 3 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of West Walnut Street.

Township police say two vehicles, a red Chevrolet Cruze and a silver Chevrolet Venture van were both struck on the driver's side, resulting in moderate damage. Police said, a motorcycle was seen leaving the area where both vehicles were parked.

Pleads guilty

SHAMOKIN - Darnel Roque, 33, of 231 W. Willow St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty Tuesday to disorderly conduct and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year.

An additional charge of obstructing administration of the law was withdrawn.

Roque was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Nathan Rhodes in connection with a Sept. 13 fight in the 200 block of West Willow Street in which he kicked and head-butted the back of a police car window while in custody.

Assault

KULPMONT - Patrolman David Patrick Tomtishen cited a 17-year-old Kulpmont girl with harassment and disorderly conduct relating to an assault that occurred during the evening hours of Sept. 23 at the Terry Mirriello Stadium.

Police said the female punched a 17-year-old Ashland girl in the face causing damage to her glasses and bruising to her eye.

Local man injured

HEGINS TOWNSHIP - Francis A. Wilson, 34, of Mount Carmel, suffered a minor injury Oct. 1 in a one-car accident on Route 25 (Main Street) just east of Camp-A-While Road.

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported Wilson was driving a 2006 Suzuki Forenza west at 7:33 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a left curve, causing his auto to exit the westbound shoulder and strike an embankment and boulder. The car rolled over once and came to rest in the westbound lane.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Hammer's.

Wilson, who was cited for failing to drive in a single lane, was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and released.

Theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Vicky Woodland, 57, of 170 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, said a mahogany dining room set and sideboard, which she purchased for $10 at a public auction, were removed from a porch at 41 Sheridan St. sometime between Sept. 26 and Oct. 1. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

DUIs

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Edward Purcell has charged two people with driving under the influence of alcohol relating to a sobriety checkpoint conducted Sept. 19 and Sept. 20 along Route 61 near the former Sam Bressi Motors.

Elizabeth Chapman, 67, of 327 S. Fifth St., Shamokin, was charged with two counts of DUI involving an incident at 11:45 p.m. Sept. 19. Police said Chapman had a blood-alcohol content of .085 percent.

Joseph M. Sikoskie Jr., 33, of 300 W. Snyder St., Selinsgrove, also was charged with two counts of DUI in connection with an incident at 1:50 a.m. Sept. 20. Police said Sikoskie had a blood-alcohol content of .123 percent.

DUI offenses

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Ronald Lee Carey, 36, of 32 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Kelly Campbell with two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance or combination of drugs, failure to drive in a single lane and careless driving.

Police said the charges relate to an Aug. 14 vehicle stop on Route 61 near Strong.

Police reported Carey had Lorazepam in his blood system.

Bad check

RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Cpl. Bryon Chowka has charged Salvatore M. Guarna, 43, of 24 E. Third St., Apt. 401, Mount Carmel, with issuing a bad check in the amount of $741.37 for fuel at Miller's Gas and Oil along Route 61 in Weigh Scales June 23.

Resisting arrest

MARION HEIGHTS - David J. Swatski Jr., 32, of 126 S. Main St., Herndon, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell with resisting arrest, driving under suspension, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving and careless driving.

Police said Swatski was observed driving erratically at the intersection of Park Avenue and Route 2026 Aug. 9 before parking the vehicle in front of a garage at 136 W. North St. Upon exiting the vehicle, police said Swatski ignored commands to return to the vehicle and walked east on West North Street. Police had to use physical force to subdue the defendant, who was handcuffed and taken into custody.

DUI

KULPMONT - Samuel J. Dascani, 22, of Kulpmont, was charged by Patrolman David Tomtishen with driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest, institutional vandalism, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, stalking, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and criminal mischief.

The charges relate to a Sept. 10 disturbance at Dascani's former residence at 632 Scott St.

Dascani is accused of attempting to enter the home of Marci Bainbridge, who previously kicked the defendant out of her home because of his drug problems, police said. Police said Dascani kicked the kitchen door before scaling wrought iron to gain access to the second-story porch. After damaging a screen to unlock the door, Dascani gained entry and began chasing Bainbridge down the stairs and out the front door.

Bainbridge told police she had to run onto the porches of multiple neighbors to escape Dascani. But as she attempted to walk back to her house, Dascani followed her and chased her up an entry way to a neighbor's home before finally leaving the area.

Police conducted a vehicle stop on Dascani at Sixth and Chestnut streets and spotted a six-pack of beer on the floor of the car and a syringe on the rear passenger seat.

Dascani resisted arrest before later spitting chew tobacco all over the seat, floor and barricade of a police car.

Drug offenses

MOUNT CARMEL - Michael Anthony Olbrish, 33, of 702 Scott St., Kulpmont, was charged by Chief of Police Todd Owens with possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of unlawful acts involving a Sept. 17 incident at 2 S. Locust St.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Olbrish was found in possession of Anastrozole tablets and syringes used to inject anabolic steroids.

Ralpho rollover

PAXINOS - Luis Francisco Pares-Lanza, 22, of 210 Orange St., Northumberland, escaped injury in a rollover at about 9:45 a.m. Thursday on Bottle Road, near West Center Street, in Ralpho Township.

Pares-Lanza, employed at a nearby plant in Reed Industrial Park, was on a break and went to a retail store. He was traveling west toward Snydertown Road on his way back when a deer ran in front of his 1995 Honda, causing him to swerve and strike an embankment, according to reports at the scene.

Police said the car traveled 117 feet before re-entering the road, at which time it rolled onto its roof, coming to rest in the northbound lane. Pares-Lanza crawled from the vehicle through a side window.

Pares-Lanza suffered injuries to his head and face, but refused treatment at the scene, police said.

Assisting police were members of the Elysburg Fire Company paramedic unit.

Pares-Lanza's car was towed.

Rubbish charge

COAL TOWNSHIP - Michael McKenna, 30, of 28 S. Hickory St., Mount Carmel was charged with scattering rubbish after police say it was discovered he had taken a dump truck to the Third Patch area of Bear Valley Road and emptied its contents. The charge was filed by police Patrolman Chad Yoder.

Granite vase stolen

GRATZ - State police at Lykens report that sometime between Sept. 7 and Tuesday, someone stole a Bahama blue granite vase from a headstone display owned by the Sausser Monument and Memorial Company, of Ashland. The display was at the area of Erdman Road and North Alley. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 717-362-8700.

Aggravated assault

PITMAN - Melody Shingara, 52, of Pitman, was charged by state police at Schuylkill Haven with aggravated assault for allegedly swinging a meat cleaver and fillet knife that struck Scott Myer, 55, of Pitman, in each hand.

Police said the disturbance occurred at 12:35 a.m. Friday at 93 Ridge Road.

Shingar was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker of Shenandoah and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

Route 61 accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - No injuries were reported in a minor two-vehicle accident Thursday night on Route 61 near Burger King.

Coal Township police said Joseph Dombroski, 53, of 212 W. Sunbury St., Shamokin, stopped his 2001 Chevrolet Blazer at the intersection waiting for the traffic signal to turn green at 8:33 p.m. when his vehicle was struck in the rear by a vehicle operated by Jill Yablonski, 42, of 1600 Wabash St., Coal Township.

Police said Yablonski was initially stopped at the intersection and proceeded forward when the light changed green before Dombroski had a chance to move.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were driven from the scene.

Drug charges

SHAMOKIN - Richard A. Armstrong II, 33, and Timothy Allen Smith Jr., 22, both of 125 E. Arch St., Shamokin, were charged by Cpl. Bryan Primerano with possession of drug paraphernalia involving an incident at 10 p.m. Sunday at their home.

Both men were charged with possessing a smoking device used to ingest Spice. Armstrong also was charged with possessing Spice.

Attempted fight

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police cited Andrew S. Snyder, 46, of 350 S. Vine St., and Dennis R. Dormer, 43, of 138 S. Oak St., for public drunkenness following an incident at 9:45 p.m. Oct. 3 in the 00 block of South Oak Street.

Cpl. Dave Donkochik reported he observed both men attempting to start a fight with another man in the middle of the street. Donkochik said Snyder and Dormer were extremely intoxicated at the time. Both men were cited after police repeatedly told them to leave the area. Assisting Donkochik was borough police Lt. Christopher Buhay.

Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police are looking for information on a hit-and-run crash at 6:34 p.m. Friday in the 1300 block of West Arch Street.

David Rarick, 29, of 1119 N. Rock St., reported to authorities the driver's side mirror of his vehicle was damaged by a passing vehicle while parked on West Arch Street. A witness told police a newer model turquoise sedan struck Rarick's vehicle and went west on Arch Street following the crash. The suspect vehicle may have damaged to the passenger side mirror area.

Two vehicle crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 10:06 p.m. Friday at Arch and Oak streets.

Township Police Cpl. Joshua Wynn reported a 1994 Jeep, driven by Amanda Hurlburt, 21, of 933 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, pulled out from a stop sign on Oak Street and was crossing over Arch Street. While Hurlburt crossed the intersection, a 2014 Buick, driven by Malcolm C. Farrow IV, 67, of 240 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, pulled from a stop sign on Arch Street and struck the side of Hurlburt's vehicle.

There were no injuries and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

Public drunkenness

MOUNT CARMEL - Danielle Freitag, 27, of 18 S. Locust St., Mount Carmel, was cited for public drunkenness by borough police Cpl, David Donkochik after an incident in Town Park at 7:52 p.m. Oct. 2.

Police said Freitag was intoxicated in the park and attempting to start a fight with a group of young teenagers who were gathered in the park. She allegedly told police she was looking for another 17-year-old male to have a pre-arranged confrontation.

Donkochik was assisted at the scene by police Lt. Christopher Buhay and Officer William Adamski.

Found dog

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police report a brown Pitbull-type dog was found along Route 901 between Excelsior and Ranshaw and turned into police at 12:33 p.m. Sunday. The dog can be claimed by contacting the Sunbury Animal Hospital or the Northumberland County dog warden.

Attempted burglary

SHAMOKIN - City police responded to a burglar alarm about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Choice Cigarette Discount Outlet at Race and Pearl streets. A window was broken but Chief Darwin Tobias III does not believe entry was made or that anything was stolen. Anyone with information should call police at 570-648-5708.

Burglary

TREVORTON - Tina Marie Hengst, 31, of Shamokin, reported a burglary at a mobile home at Stiely's trailer lot in Zerbe Township. Trooper Daniel J. Wilk said a thief entered the trailer through an unlocked door and walked off with a 47-inch Vizio flat-screen television sometime between 8 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2:15 p.m. Sunday. Anyone with information is asked to call the Stonington state police station at 570-286-5601.

Harrassment

TREVORTON - David Christopher Balonis, 56, of Mount Carmel, and Jamie Lyn Shaffer, 19, of Trevorton, are accused of harassing each other verbally and physically during an incident about 5:15 p.m. Saturday at routes 890 and 225. An investigation continues.

DUI, careless driving

MOUNT CARMEL - Lisa Marie Andes, 45, of 622 Scott St., Apt. C, Kulpmont, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell with four misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and summary offenses of speeding, careless driving, not wearing a seat belt and not keeping a current name or address on her license after her vehicle crashed into a tree at 7:22 a.m. Aug. 14.

Blood tests from the night of the crash showed Andes had a blood alcohol level of .186 and numerous prescription medications in her bloodstream.

Andes was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones Tuesday on $5,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 22.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL - Philip Donald Fallat, 29, of 1064 Pine St., Kulpmont, was charged by Ralpho Township Patrolman Chris Dailey with driving on the wrong side of the road, refusing to provide a driver's license, registration and proof of insurance to a police officer and two counts of driving under the influence after he was pulled over near All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg, shortly before midnight July 26.

Fallat refused a blood test and failed a series of field sobriety tests, police said.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Edward Purcell will cite Ryan Moroz, 25, and Brooke Mulac, 19, both of 912 Spruce St., Kulpmont, for retail theft involving an incident shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday at Walmart Supercenter.

Moroz will be cited for two counts of retail theft for attempting to walk out of the store with a zipper hooded shirt and pants valued at $35.28 and removing an Xbox controller valued at $74.98 earlier in the day. Mulac will be cited for one count of retail theft for allegedly placing infant clothing into a shopping bag and leaving the store without paying for the merchandise valued at $40.86.

Three cases were settled during preliminary hearings held Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.

n Charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct against Matthew S. Deitz. 24, of 129 W. Third St., second floor, Mount Carmel, were withdrawn when the victim refused to testify.

Deitz was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police Cpl. David Donkochik following a disturbance at 315 S. Locust St. July 23.

n Christina Snyder, 33, of 254 W. Saylor St., Atlas, pleaded guilty to a seat belt violation and was ordered to pay fines and court costs totaling $165.

Snyder was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police Patrolman Kelly Campbell following a traffic stop on Route 61 in Atlas Aug. 24.

A charge of illegally operating a motor vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock system was withdrawn in the case.

n Samantha Joseph, 21, of 323 S. Grape St., Mount Carmel, entered a no-contest plea to a summary charge of harassment and was sentenced to time already served in Northumberland County Prison.

She was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Justin Stelma after a Sept. 1 incident at 225 E. Avenue when she allegedly threw her son approximately 10 feet onto a couch. She had been in prison since her Sept. 23 arraignment.

Charges of endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault were withdrawn in the case.
