Trevorton Road accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in front of 1620 Trevorton Road near Annabelle's Restaurant.

Patrolman Matthew Hashuga said Margaret Bednarcik, 91, of Coal Township, was driving a 2003 Buick Century south on Route 225 shortly before 4 p.m. when she signaled to make a left turn near Annabelle's. Police said Bednarcik slowed down and came to a stop in the southbound lane while waiting for northbound traffic to pass so she could make a left turn into a driveway at 1620 Trevorton Road.

At that point, Hashuga said a 2003 Mazda Protege operated by Erin Dehart, 18, of Saint Thomas, who was traveling south on Route 225, rear-ended Bednarcik's car. Police said Dehart attempted to stop to avoid a collision, but was unable to do so.

Both drivers were evaluated at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Dehart's car sustained front-end damage and was towed from the scene. Bednarcik's auto sustained rear-end damage.

Dehart was cited by Hashuga for careless driving.

First St., Shamokin, had her 2013 Toyota stopped on Route 61 for a red light when a 1988 Chevrolet truck driven south on the highway by Robert T. Neidig Jr., of 125 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, slid into the rear of Burns' vehicle after being unable to stop.

Burns' car sustained moderate damage while Neidig's truck sustained minor damage.

Neidig was cited by Williams for following a vehicle too closely.
