Burglary
SHAMOKIN - William Vantrieste, 19, whose last known address is in New Jersey, was charged by Patrolman Scott Weaver with felonies of burglary and criminal trespass after being found shortly after 1 p.m. Monday in an apartment in the 100 block of East Independence Street.
Police said Vantrieste is accused of breaking into the apartment by damaging a door jam. He was found sleeping in the vacant apartment by building supervisor Richard Jilinski, who reported the incident to police.
Vantrieste told police he recently came to Shamokin on a bus from southern New Jersey.
He was arraigned by video at about 4 p.m. Monday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to Montour County Prison in Danville in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
Assisting Weaver at the scene were Chief of Police Darwin Tobias III, Patrolman Raymond Siko II and Coal Township Patrolman Jason Adams.
Drug charges
COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Raymond Siko II has charged Michael J. Acevedo, 51, of 1627 W. Willow St., Coal Township, with felonies of possession with intent to deliver heroin and criminal use of a communication facility and misdemeanors of possession of drug paraphernalia and restrictions on alcoholic beverages relating to a March 24 drug transaction in the doorway area at Snappers Bar at Shamokin and Spurzheim streets.
Acevedo is accused of possessing 11 heroin packets with the intent to sell them for $170 to a confidential informant at 5:30 p.m.
Acevedo was arraigned at 9:10 p.m. Monday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to Snyder County Prison in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.
