BRANDONVILLE - A Schuylkill Haven woman involved in a two-vehicle accident with a Mount Carmel man Monday morning remains in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, according to a hospital spokesperson Wednesday.
Karen Schultz, 51, of Schuylkill Haven, was flown to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, in the Life Flight helicopter following the 7:10 a.m. crash, but was moved to the Allentown hospital with injuries to the right leg and pelvic area.
The other driver, Harold Wolford, 43, of Mount Carmel, had been discharged from Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, according to a hospital spokesman.
Wolford failed to stop the 1997 Ford van he was driving at the intersection of Routes 924 and 339 in Schuylkill County and struck a Schuylkill Transportation System bus being driven by Schultz, state police at Frackville reported.
The impact forced both vehicles across the intersection, where the Wolford van struck a Frontier Communications utility pole, a stop sign, a street sign and a metal business sign owned by Central Highway Oil Co. The STS bus also struck the utility pole.
Police also incorrectly identified the first person on the scene as John Wakubik, but they provided new information Tuesday and identified his last name as Yakubik.
