DUI

SHAMOKIN - Justin Brosious, 22, of 123 S. Third St., Room 9, Sunbury, has been charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, stopping and parking his vehicle near Bear Valley Avenue and Market Street while falling asleep and careless driving.

The charges relate to an incident shortly after 2 a.m. Nov. 2.

Police said Brosious had a blood-alcohol content of .106 percent.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Matthew J. Furr, 35, of 102 N. Vine St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Edward Purcell with a felony of retail theft and summary of driving under suspension involving incidents at Walmart Supercenter Nov. 23.

Furr, who fled from the store after stealing a $40 video game, was subsequently taken into custody by Coal Township and Shamokin police after being stopped while operating a 2002 Subaru at the jughandle along Route 61 across from the former Ames Department Store.

Police said Furr was previously charged with retail theft, which elevated the offense to a felony.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Steven L. Rivera, 23, of Grove City, was charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief relating to a Nov. 1 incident at 100 S. Market St.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Rivera is accused of kicking a glass entry door, causing the glass to shatter. Police said damage to the door was estimated at $300.

Fleeing charge

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Raymond Siko II has charged Dillon K. Kleman, 19, of 1225 Chemung St., Coal Township, with fleeing or eluding police, driving under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, a stop sign violation, careless driving and failure to wear protective equipment while operating a motorcycle involving a 10-block pursuit in the city Nov. 23.

Police said Kleman, who was not wearing a helmet, fled from police after failing to stop for a stop sign at Shamokin and Shakespeare streets. The pursuit continued as Kleman failed to stop for stop signs at three more intersections before Siko terminated the chase at Shamokin and Pine streets when it began to rain.

Kleman was later located and taken into custody.

DUI charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - Christopher A. Charowsky, 21, of 1500 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, has been charged by Patrolman Christopher Williams with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and careless driving in connection with a Feb. 28 accident on Route 61 at Tharptown.

Police reported Charowsky, who had a blood-alcohol content of .226 percent, was critically injured after being ejected from his vehicle that hit a snow bank and overturned.

Drug paraphernalia

SHAMOKIN - Cody Hlavaty, 20, of 227 W. Willow St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with possession of drug paraphernalia involving a Nov. 24 incident at Shamokin Police Station.

When he was taken into custody by a Northumberland County probation officer, Hlavaty was found in possession of a syringe used to inject a controlled substance and admitted to probation officers that he recently used narcotics.
