DUI

STONINGTON - State police said charges are pending against an unnamed 38-year-old person from Pearl Street, Shamokin, who is in prison on an outstanding bench warrant and is suspected of driving under the influence in relation to a traffic stop at 1:25 a.m. Sunday in Coal Township.

Hit and run

STONINGTON - State police are investigating a hit and run that occurred at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, on Route 3010 in Upper Mahanoy Township.

Police said the vehicle, believed to be a late model dark blue Jeep Cherokee, driven by a female, exited the south side of the roadway while it was traveling eastbound on Route 3010 on a left hand curve. The vehicle traveled approximately 30 yards in a southeast direction before striking a tree and stopping in a cornfield. The vehicle then reentered Route 3010 and continued east.

Deer struck

STONINGTON - The driver of a vehicle that collided with a deer on Plum Creek Road in Shamokin Township at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, was not cited or injured, according to state police. The police did not name the driver.

Theft

STONINGTON - State police are searching for the person who smashed the windows of Joseph Michael Vincenzes, 30, of Paxinos, with an unknown object between 8 p.m. Saturday and 8:38 p.m. Sunday on Route 125 in East Cameron Township.

Aggravated Assault

STONINGTON - Charges are pending against an unidentified 34-year-old inmate at SCI-Coal Township after he allegedly cut Juan Mulero, 53, with a broken pen and struck him with his cane at 11 p.m. Sunday.

Mulero was taken to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital for treatment.

Theft

STONINGTON - State police are looking for information on a person who allegedly stole scrap metal from the workshop of Neil Masser, 44, of 579 Main Rd., Leck Kill, at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Mailbox baseball

STONINGTON - One or more unknown actors destroyed mailboxes at the homes of Rachel Phillips, 1171 Pottsville St., Jodi Weikel 626 Pottsville St., and Mindy Lagerman, 518 Pottsville St., all in Herndon, in the early morning hours Monday.

A mailbox at the home of Douglas Wolfe, 914 Route 225, Dalmatia, was also destroyed during the same time. It is undetermined if the two incidents are related.

Clogged pipes

STONINGTON - State police said at 11 p.m. Wednesday an unknown actor damaged a red GMC Sonoma owned by Kyle Dunkelberger, of Mahanoy Street, Trevorton, by spraying expanding foam into its exhaust pipe.

Car aflame

GOWEN CITY - A Shamokin man's car burst into flames along Point Breeze Road about 9:50 a.m. Friday morning in East Cameron Township. State police at Stonington said Mark Sherman, 69, was driving a Buick Enclave just west of state Route 125 when the engine malfunctioned and caught fire. The vehicle was totally engulfed, police said, but Sherman escaped injury.
