Hit and run
COAL TOWNSHIP - A Coal Township man is accused of crashing a friend's Jeep along Trevorton Road early Monday.
According to police, Mark Lowry, 28, took the 2004 Jeep Liberty from a friend's home without permission and about 3:50 a.m. crashed into the front steps of 1229 Trevorton Road before continuing into the front yard and striking a tree. Police said Lowry then fled the scene.
He is charged by Patrolman Jason Adams with unauthorized use of an automobile, accidents involving damage and driving without a license.
Code citation
COAL TOWNSHIP - Thomas A. Griffith, of 45 S. Market St., Shamokin, was cited by township code officer Chris Petrovich for allegedly violating ordinance on high grass and garbage accumulation at his property at 1032 W. Spruce St.
Disorderly conduct
COAL TOWNSHIP - A 14-year-old Coal Township boy and a 13-year-old Dornsife boy were cited with disorderly conduct for allegedly throwing eggs at the home of Robert Macminn, 65, of 1125 W. Walnut St., at 9:55 p.m. July 30.
Phone scam
ASHLAND - Borough Police Chief Mark O'Hearn warns of a potential phone scam. A resident reported receiving a phone call at 6 p.m. July 31 from a person claiming to represent the Melendez Legal Group. The caller said the resident faced a warrant for not paying taxes. O'Hearn said residents should not give any personal information including banking data during any unsolicited phone call.
Soda jerks
PAXINOS - Soda machines were damaged and cash was stolen from them between 3 p.m. Saturday and 9:15 a.m. Sunday at the Indian Hills Golf and Tennis Club. The machines are owned by Mid-Atlantic Coca-Cola, Harrisburg. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at Stonington at 570-286-5601.
Needles found
ATLAS - Judith M. McGinley, 40, of 339 E. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, is charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski with possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop at Girard and Fern streets at 1:40 p.m. July 14.
McGinley was a passenger in a vehicle that had been stopped by police. She is accused of having possessed four hypodermic needles, a tourniquet made of rope and a glass smoking pipe with burnt residue inside. She also had outstanding warrants from the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office.
The vehicle's driver, Dallas Rhodes, 41, of Elysburg, was cited for driving without a license. Another passenger, Shannon McGinley, was taken into custody by Shamokin police on outstanding warrants.
Drug charge
KULPMONT - Lacey Nadine McDonald, 24, of 497 W. Saylor St., Atlas, was charged by Patrolman Patrick McAndrew with receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal conspiracy stemming from an April incident at 622 Scott St., Apt. A.
Charges stem from an alleged burglary of video games and hardware and a subsequent search of Apt. D, where police said McDonald was staying at the time. Drug paraphernalia, including spoons with a white substance, hypodermic needles, utility blades and wax paper, were allegedly found inside.
Co-defendants Eric Janoka and Anthony Zamboni, who also lived in the apartment building, were previously charged.
Simple assault
COAL TOWNSHIP - Harry Wheary Jr., 46, of 223 Main St., was arrested on charges for allegedly punching his girlfriend in the face and threatening to kill her inside his home about 3 p.m. Sunday.
Patrolman Dave Sage charged Wheary with simple assault, terroristic threats and two counts of harassment. He was arraigned Monday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin, and jailed on $2,500 bail at Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury.
The victim suffered swelling to her face. She was evaluated on scene by ambulance personnel and told police she would seek emergency room treatment.
Inmate at prison
COAL TOWNSHIP - Antwain Carter, 22, an inmate at SCI-Coal Township, is accused of possessing a 6-inch piece of metal that was fashioned into a knife. The weapon was discovered during a pat down when Carter attempted to enter the prison yard at 6:35 p.m. July 28. He is charged by Trooper Ronald Zanella of the Stonington station with possessing instruments of crime, prohibited offensive weapon and possession of a weapon. He was arraigned Monday via video conference before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin, and bail was set at $1,000.
