PFA violation
MOUNT CARMEL - Adam M. Hendricks, 34, of 223 East Ave., Mount Carmel, was charged by Cpl. David Donkochik with violating a protection from abuse order filed against him by his live-in girlfriend, Debra Palestis.
Police reported Hendricks is accused of attempting to stop Palestis from leaving their home in a car and trying to slash the tires on her vehicle with a knife at 9:22 p.m. Friday.
Hendricks and Palestis told police the defendant has been living at 223 East Ave. in violation of the PFA order.
Multiple charges
RIVERSIDE - Joshua Seth Kovaschetz, 34, of 2273 Mile Hill Road, P.O. Box 301, Sunbury, was charged by Trooper Justin Rosboschil with hit and run, following a vehicle too closely, careless driving, failure to provide immediate notice of an accident to police and operating a vehicle without an official certificate of inspection.
The charges were filed in connection with a Feb. 7 two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Sunbury and Whiteknight roads in Riverside.
Public nuisance
SHAMOKIN - Adam Brooks, 47, of 821 Mount Carmel St., Shamokin, was charged by Cpl. Bryan Primerano with causing a public nuisance by violating code and public safety ordinances at his home Feb. 23.
According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, the south porch floor and roof at the property have or are in danger of collapsing. Police said there is no railing on the front porch and the chimney is damaged and in danger of collapsing. Police reported the siding/shingles on the building are detached and falling and there is broken glass inside the structure. Police said the building is exposed which allows animals easy access and high weeds are present on the property and porch area. A brick wall on the south side of the building facing Sunbury Street is damaged and in danger of collapsing.
DUI
SHAMOKIN - Loriann M. Gula, 46, of 268 Colonial Ave., Natalie, was charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and stop sign violation involving a Nov. 23 two-vehicle accident at Liberty and Water streets.
Police reported Gula had a blood-alcohol content of .17 percent.
Drug paraphernalia
SHAMOKIN - Brandon M. Garancheski, 20, of 310 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, was charged by Cpl. Bryan Primerano with possession of drug paraphernalia and underage drinking involving a Feb. 25 incident at his residence.
Police found empty Suboxone packets, syringes and Captain Morgan spiced rum in Garancheski's possession.
Theft of leased property
COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Terry Ketchem has filed a charge of theft by deception against David T. Miller III, 42, of 21 N. Anthracite St., Shamokin.
Police reported Miller failed to make any payments on a 46-inch Toshiba LCD television valued at $1,021.64 he leased from Lightning Rent To Own in the Anthra Plaza on June 24.
Resisting arrest
SHAMOKIN - Patrolman William Zalinski has charged Joshua L. Scandle, 34, of Shamokin, who is currently an inmate at Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury, with resisting arrest, possession of a packet of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges were filed in connection with a Feb. 14 incident at Arch and Third streets in which Scandle attempted to flee police on foot and had to be wrestled to the ground by officers. In addition to the packet of heroin, police said Scandle was found in possession of several empty heroin wrappers and hypodermic needles.
