Email scam
SHAMOKIN - Chief of Police Edward Griffiths warns residents to be aware of an email scam involving reports of a priest who formerly resided in the area visiting a foreign country seeking money because he can't activate his credit card.
Griffiths says the report is fictitious and warns residents and friends of the priest not to send any money.
PFA violation
SUNBURY - Chelsey Wise, 19, of 529 N. Sixth St., Sunbury, has been charged by Officer Scott Hause with violating a protection from abuse order involving a disturbance Sunday night at Weis Markets, 1100 N. Fourth St.
According to a criminal complaint, Wise entered the store where Robert Chappell is employed and began yelling obscenities and throwing things around before being escorted from the building by employees. Once outside, Wise saw Chappell and began yelling obscenities again and threatened him, police said.
Police said Chappell had a PFA filed against Wise, ordering her to avoid contact with him.
Police reported the disturbance occurred at about 9 p.m.
Wise was arraigned at 11 p.m. by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
Burglary charges
SUNBURY - Robert L. Blake, 45, of 618 Susquehanna Ave., Sunbury, was arraigned at 8:30 p.m. Friday by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III on charges of burglary, two counts of criminal trespass, criminal attempt to commit theft and criminal mischief.
Patrolman Stephen Bennick, who filed the charges, said Blake is accused of cutting open a screen, damaging a window and kicking open an apartment door at 155 Race St. Feb. 14 and attempting to steal weapons and a television set valued at $400. Police said Blake fled the apartment building owned by Kenneth Ney after being confronted by Nye.
Police said Blake, who caused approximately $1,000 damage at the apartment, was located at 6 p.m. Friday at Burger King in an intoxicated state.
He was committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
City assault investigation
SHAMOKIN - City police are investigating the assault of an 18-year-old male in the 400 block of East Independence Street Sunday afternoon.
Police said the victim was assaulted at about 12:45 p.m. by three males in front of the Knights of Columbus building. Two other males were with the suspects when the assault occurred, police said.
The victim, who was not identified by police, underwent emergency room treatment at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital before being released.
2-vehicle crash
COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 8:20 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Water Street and Kulp Avenue.
Coal Township police reported John M. Kodack, of 233 S. Sixth St., Shamokin, traveling east on Water Street, failed to stop at a stop sign and his vehicle, a 1998 Buick LaSabre, collided with a 2012 Ford F-150 truck driven by Daniel K. Venn, of 1545 W. Nelson St. Venn was driving north on Kulp Avenue. The impact caused Venn's vehicle to go onto the property of Albert Eichen at 1738 W. Walnut St.
The two vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed. There was damage to the fence, shrubbery and lawn at the Eichen property.
Kodack was cited for a stop sign violation.
Retail theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - Joseph Carner, 29, of Coal Township, and Allen Roth, 47, of Shamokin, have been charged with retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft relating to a Jan. 30 incident at Walmart in Coal Township.
Coal Township Police Patrolman Matthew Hashuga reported Carner and Roth allegedly stole $314.19 worth of DVDs and cologne from the store without paying full retail value for the merchandise.
Minor damage
COAL TOWNSHIP - Minor damage resulted from a two-vehicle accident at Howard and Tioga streets at 12:13 p.m. Sunday.
Patrolman Chris Lapotsky reported Ronald Nalewak, 69, of 1800 Tioga St., Coal Township was traveling west on Tioga Street when he had to veer to the right because of oncoming traffic in his lane. As a result, his vehicle struck a vehicle stopped at a stop sign on Howard Street that was operated by Lorena Alegiojo, 60, of York, who complained of a minor injury. Her mother, Clara Moore, 82, of 1255 W. Arch St., Coal Township, was a passenger in her vehicle.
Both vehicles were driven from the scene. Alegiojo went to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital in her own vehicle to be treated for her injury.
Harassment
COAL TOWNSHIP - A 16-year-old female student at Shamokin Area High School will be charged with harassment as a result of an incident at the school on Feb. 20, Coal Township police reported.
Police said the girl punched a 17-year-old female student in the head while they were in the cafeteris.
Harassment
ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Tony James Tessa, 38, of Trevorton, was charged by state police at Stonington with harassment for striking Joseph Benjamin Siberski, 67, of Trevorton, in the head with an open hand.
State police said the incident, which occurred at 5:45 p.m. Friday at 135 W. Shamokin St. in Zerbe Township, escalated from a verbal disagreement.
Liquor law violation
MOUNT CARMEL - The Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement district office in Montoursville, has filed a citation against the Lithuanian Social Club, 309 S. Oak St.
According to the bureau, the club has been cited with failure to maintain complete and truthful records for a two-year period prior to Dec. 21.
The charge will be brought before an administrative law judge.
