Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Joshua Scandle, 34, of 225 S. Fourth St., Shamokin, was charged with retail theft and criminal trespass following a Nov. 23 incident at Walmart SuperCenter.

According to officer Joshua Wynn, Scandle stole several items, including hams, turkeys and frying pans, totalling $880.01; only $479.79 of the items were recovered.

Scandle came before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin, and was placed in Northumberland County Prison on $20,000 bail for this and other crimes. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 25 before Gembic.

Two-vehicle crash

ZERBE TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a crash at 10:28 a.m. Feb. 3 at the intersection of Route 890 and Birch Road.

State police at Stonington said a 2000 Ford Ranger, driven by Nathan Hatzel, 21, of Trevorton, was stopped on Birch Road waiting to turn onto Route 890 when a 2012 Chrysler 200, driven by Thomas Reed, 63, of Trevorton, was traveling north on Route 890. Police said Hatzel pulled into Reed's path and the vehicles collided.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
