Burglary
KLINGERSTOWN - Jarred Derck, 29, with a last known address in Ashland, was charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass following a break-in at a Klingerstown home April 30.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Arlene E. Deibert, 81, of Klingerstown, told police someone entered her residence and removed several items, including money, credit cards, a cell phone, a digital camera, a driver's license and a shotgun. Police determined the stolen credit cards were used at several gas stations in the Valley View and Gratz areas.
Derck was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley of Pottsville and bail was set at $25,000 percentage. He was taken to Northumberland County Prison, where he is being held on unrelated charges. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21 before Magisterial District Judge Carol Pankake of Tremont.
Detour
RIVERSIDE - Motorists were detoured off Route 54 near the "Narrows" for about an hour Friday morning after a tree fell across power lines and was hanging over the road.
Electric service was interrupted at 10:09 a.m. for 314 customers, according to PPL. Power has since been restored.
PennDOT announced at 10:55 a.m. that the highway was closed between Route 2006 (Rushtown Road) and Route 4001 (Sunbury Road). At 11:45 a.m., the road was reopened, PennDOT reported.
Motorists were advised to follow Rushtown Road and Sunbury Road as the detour.
Two vehicle crash
COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday near Anthra Plaza at 5:43 p.m.
Coal Township Police report a 2011 Nissan, driven by Janice Yost, 51, of Shamokin, was making a left turn onto Route 61 and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, causing her to strike a 2002 Saturn driven by John Kenenitz, 43, of Coal Township.
Both vehicles sustained minor damage; neither driver nor a 10-year-old passenger inside Kenenitz' car was injured. Police say charges are pending completion of the investigation.
Hit and run
ZERBE TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington continue to investigate a crash that caused damaged to two parked vehicles on West Market Street near South Seventh Street at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
According to police, a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt and a 1994 Chevrolet 1500 truck, both owned by Gary Knarr, of West Market Street, Trevorton, were parked in the 600 block of West Market Street, Trevorton, when they were struck by an unknown vehicle.
Police said the vehicle in question was traveling west on Market Street and struck the Cobalt, which was pushed sideways into the right rear corner of the truck. Police said the driver left the scene.
Police could not determine the make, model or color of the vehicle, but said it may have sustained visible damage to its right front. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at 570-286-5601.
Purse stolen
COAL TOWNSHIP - Heather Rosetta, 19, of Atlas, told Coal Township police someone removed a purple and silver purse from a vehicle at the Burger King on Route 61 at 5:40 p.m. Thursday. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 570-644-0333.
