Fleeing
STONINGTON - A Sunbury man will face charges after leading police on a chase at 8:43 p.m. July 11.
According to a report by Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Daniel J. Wilk, Robert Allen Potter, 43, of Sunbury, did not stop the motorcycle he was operating when Wilk attempted a traffic stop after the officer observed several traffic violations. A pursuit was initiated, but later called off for safety reasons.
Charges will be filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
Resisting arrest
MOUNT CARMEL - A borough man was charged with resisting arrest and other charges after failing to respond to police commands in an incident near his East Avenue home at 1:18 a.m. July 9.
Borough Police Lt. Christopher Buhay reported in court documents that officers responded to 221 E. Avenue for an incident. While police were inside the home, James R. Karstetter, 24, of 211 E. Avenue, yelled through a window at one of the parties.
Police advised him to stop yelling and go home, but Karstetter refused. After repeated commands for him to go home, police took Karstetter into custody. Karstetter tried to run away, and police had to use substantial force to take him into custody, police said.
At the police station, Karstetter had to be forcibly removed from the police vehicle, police said. Karstetter was reportedly yelling, screaming, kicking and spitting inside the station. A preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol level to be .229 percent.
A check of Karstetter's record showed him as a wanted person in Mifflin County, and he was taken to Northumberland County Prison. During transport, Karstetter continued to spit and yell and threatened to damage the police vehicle, police said. Officers from Mount Carmel and Sunbury and prison staff helped escort the suspect into the prison.
Karstetter was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 4 before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.
Three-vehicle crash
SHAMOKIN DAM - No one was injured in a three-vehicle crash on a ramp to the Veterans Memorial Bridge at Baldwin Boulevard at 12:45 p.m. Sunday.
State police at Selinsgrove report a 2000 Honda Accord, driven by a juvenile from Selinsgrove, was traveling west and approaching stopped traffic on the Route 15 south ramp from the bridge. The driver reportedly could not stop in time and hit the back of a 2013 Audi Q5, driven by Janet M. Petrucci, 39, of Mount Carmel. The Audi continued forward and struck a 2013 Honda Accord, driven by Nancy L. Wilson, 49, of Coal Township.
None of the drivers, Petrucci's passenger, Jennifer Chikotas, 40, of Mount Carmel, or Wilson's passenger, Cailin A. Wilson, 18, of Mount Carmel, were injured in the crash. The juvenile's and Petrucci's vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
Police cited the juvenile for following too closely.
DUI
COAL TOWNSHIP - Shawn A. Neidig, 23, of 150 Starook Road, Northumberland, was charged with driving under the influence, driving on roadways laned for traffic, careless driving, restriction on alcoholic beverages and occupant protection following the investigation into a traffic stop on Route 225 at 7:06 p.m. July 6.
The charges, filed by Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Thomas Leib, were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
Retail theft
SHAMOKIN - Laura L. Moll, 34, of 127 Birch St., was cited for retail theft by Cpl. Darwin Tobias III after allegedly attempted to steal $15.50 of merchandise from the Dollar General store, 30 E. Independence St., at 5:18 p.m. Thursday.
Code violations
KULPMONT - Borough code enforcement officer Russ Moroz has cited the following individuals for alleged violations of the borough's property maintenance ordinance.
David D. Dubbs, of 6 N. Vine St., Shamokin, received 21 citations on July 25 for failure to clean up 916 Chestnut St. that was damaged by fire on Jan. 29.
Joshua L. Leslie, of 703 Chestnut St., received seven citations for alleged violations for high grass and weeds, failure to dispose of trash in proper containers and allowing dog feces to accumulate on his property.
The citations were filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.
Drug paraphernalia
SHAMOKIN - A disturbance led to possession of drug paraphernalia charges for a Shamokin man during a July 24 incident at 615 N. Shamokin St.
According to a report by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Nathan Rhoads, officers were called to residence at 6:28 p.m. by the building owner. The owner said Geoffrey Koser, 27, of 615 N. Shamokin St., was walking up the stairs and fell down face first, dropping a hypodermic needle, police said. Koser walked up to an apartment door that was not his and kicked it in, police reported.
Police arrived on scene and asked Koser if the items found on the steps were his, and Koser said, "Yes." Police took him into custody and transported him to the station. At approximately 8:20 p.m., he became unresponsive and was transported to an emergency room.
Koser was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic, of Shamokin.
Curfew violation
SHAMOKIN - Two Shamokin males, ages 14 and 15, were cited by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle for violating Shamokin's curfew ordinance after being found in the area of 22 W. Lincoln St. at 12:16 a.m. Wednesday.
The ordinance prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from being out on city streets if they are not accompanied by a parent or guardian.
