Two assaulted
DANVILLE - State police at Milton reported a 20-year-old female at Danville State Hospital is accused of assaulting Janet Price, 46, of Wilburton, and Jessica Pascoe, 25, of Mahanoy City, at 6:50 p.m. Monday.
Police, who are continuing their investigation, did not identify the patient who allegedly assaulted the women.
Sobriety checkpoints
COAL TOWNSHIP - The North Central Highway Safety Network's Regional DUI Enforcement Group and Coal Township police announced roving patrols or sobriety checkpoints will be conducted from Friday to Aug. 4 on Routes 61, 225, 125, 54, 487, 901 and 147 or other connecting roads to municipalities.
Travelers are reminded to report drunk drivers by dialing 911. To report underage drinking, call 1-888-under-21.
The roving patrols and checkpoints are funded through PennDOT and National Highway Safety Administration.
Liquor law
ATLAS - Atlas Fire Company at 306 W. Saylor St. was issued a citation July 18 by the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for sales to non-members and for selling liquor and/or malt or brewed beverages after its liquor license expired March 31.
The citation, which relates to an April 27 incident, will be brought before an administrative law judge who has the authority to impose penalties ranging from $50 to $1,000 for minor offenses and up to $5,000 for more serious offenses. In addition, the judge can impose a license suspension or revocation of the license based on the severity of the charge. The judge can also mandate training for the licensee.
3-vehicle crash
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP - No serious injuries were reported in a three-vehicle, chain-reaction accident Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of Southern Drive (Route 487).
Locust Township police reported Steven Spiro Ghicondes, 54, of Yeadon, was operating a 2007 Chevy Impala at 1:38 p.m. when he failed to notice vehicles stopped for a utility work zone. Police said Ghicondes' car struck the rear of a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon operated by Catherine Marie Kitzmiller, 20, of 1028 N. Rock St., Shamokin, who was stopped in the utility zone. Kitzmiller's Tiburon was then pushed forward into the rear of a 2004 Ford Explorer operated by Kelly Ann Kerrigan, 40, of Columbia, Md., who also was stopped for a flagman from Rowe Company.
Police said one of the female drivers complained of pain in her left wrist, but said she would seek her own medical treatment.
All three vehicles were towed from the scene.
Ghincondes will be cited for careless driving.
Equipment stolen
PAXINOS - Andrew W. Beers, 27, of 1918 Old Reading Road, Paxinos, was arraigned by video at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III on felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property.
Beers is charged by Trooper Todd Leiby of state police at Stonington with stealing an Ingersoll-Rand tow behind commercial air compressor and attachments valued at approximately $3,500 from a job site outside Ash Grove Church on Lilac Road.
Police said the equipment, which is owned by Beers' landlord, Shawn Baskin of Baskin Contracting, was stolen Monday.
Beers was committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.
Glasses found
COAL TOWNSHIP - A pair of eyeglasses in a case were found at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of West Arch Street and turned into Coal Township Police. The owner of the glasses can claim them by stopping by the station or calling 644-0333.
