Loitering
MOUNT CARMEL - Borough Police Cpl. David Donkochik charged Levi L. Gray, 19, of 494 W. Saylor St., Atlas, and Justin M. Mackenzie, 19, of 344 S. Poplar St., Mount Carmel, with several charges following an incident on Mount Carmel Area School District grounds at 1:21 a.m. May 22.
Police reported in court documents the two individual were found hiding inside a school bus from police, who detected a strong odor of alcohol on the two men's breath.
The two men were charged with loitering and prowling at night, criminal trespass and underage drinking. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and preliminary hearings for both men were scheduled for Wednesday, June 26.
Multiple charges
ATLAS - Mount Carmel Township Police charged two people with separate offenses after the investigation into a dog attack at their residence on April 22.
Patrolman David J. Stamets reported in court documents that police were called to 456 E. Columbia Ave., the home of Edward K. Davis, 34, and Kenyatta R. Williams-Davis, 29, after a report that a dog left the yard and pinned a girl on the ground. Upon arrival, the dog could not be found and a neighbor told police the dog was taken back into the Davis' home.
Stamets spoke with a woman at the residence and asked to speak with Edward Davis. The woman became hostile with police, demanding a reason for the request, police said. When told it was about a loose dog, the woman told officers she owned the dog, too, but did not provide ID.
When Davis came to the door, the woman continued to yell and police eventually arrested her for persistent disorderly conduct. When they tried to take her into custody, the woman, identified as Williams-Davis, got away from police and went into the home. Once taken into custody and placed in the police vehicle, she began to knock on the window between the bar cages to the point where her skin was wearing from her knuckle.
While police took her into custody, Cpl. David Donkochik observed a glass pipe with burnt residue inside of it that smelled of marijuana. Davis told police the pipe was his.
Stamets charged Davis with possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia and cited him for confinement and housing of dogs not part of a kennel.
Williams-Davis was charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Preliminary hearings for both individuals will be held Wednesday, June 26, before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.
Burned boxes
SHAMOKIN - City Police Chief Edward Griffiths reported two male juveniles, ages 9 and 10, were involved in starting a debris fire at 4:36 p.m. Tuesday that burned several cardboard boxes placed on carts on Cleaver Street outside the Dollar General Store. Griffiths said the Northumberland County district attorney's office has been contacted.
Simple assault
KULPMONT - Christine L. Jeffrey, 26, of 554 Chestnut St., Apt. 1, Kulpmont, was charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, Michael J. McGinley, at 8:14 p.m. April 26. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26.
DUI
MOUNT CARMEL - Jennifer Yost, 40, of 217 S. Walnut St., Mount Carmel, was charged with driving under the influence, giving unsworn falsification to authorities, providing false reports incriminating another person, accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle or property and reckless driving after she allegedly told police she was not driving a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident with a fire hydrant on Sixth and Chestnut streets in Mount Carmel April 8.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel and a preliminary hearing is scheduled of June 26.
False reports
ELYSBURG - David A. Rand, 32, of 1118 Scott St., Kulpmont, was charged with false identification to authorities, drivers required to be licensed and operating a vehicle without an official certificate of inspection following a traffic stop on South Market Street, Elysburg, at 11:20 a.m. April 10.
According to Ralpho Township Police, Rand gave police a false name when he was stopped for having an invalid inspection sticker. An investigation determined Rand was driving without a license. Police said Rand gave officers his brother's name instead of his own.
A preliminary hearing on the charges before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, is scheduled for June 26.
DUI
LOCUST GAP - Mount Carmel Township Police charged James E. Colahan, 38, of 105 Gordon St., Gordon, with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle without an inspection sticker, following a traffic stop at the Locust Summit intersection of Route 901 on April 28.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and a preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday, Jan. 26.
Simple assault
MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police charged Brian J. Deeter, 28, of 241 S. Banana St., Mount Carmel, with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment after he allegedly ripped hair from the head of his girlfriend, Shawna Malloy, during a domestic dispute on May 24 at their residence.
A preliminary hearing on the charges before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10.
DUI, false reports
ATLAS - Mark Melnick, 25, of 45 S. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel, was charged with making false reports to law enforcement, tampering with physical evidence, driving under the influence of alcohol and a drug or a combination, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, driving on roadways laned for traffic and careless driving following a traffic stop on Route 61 near Cole's Hardware at 2:51 a.m. March 2.
Melnick submitted to chemical testing at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, which determined he had a BAC of .138 and Delta-9 THC in his system. Melnick was taken by police to the home of his father, Paul Melnick. Mark Melnick was told to contact the police department the following day to pick up his vehicle; however, he retrieved the vehicle at 5 a.m., called police and told them his father drove the vehicle home. Paul Melnick later admitted it was Mark who drove the vehicle home, police said.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and a preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday, June 26 before Jones.
Motorcycle crash
SNYDERTOWN - A Sunbury man was transported for medical treatment following a motorcycle crash Wednesday morning on Snydertown Road.
State police at Stonington said a 2009 Harley-Davidson Nightster, operated by Jordan K. Shaffer, 25, of Sunbury, was traveling south on Snydertown Road, near Paul Road, when a small animal ran onto the roadway. The front wheel struck the animal, Shaffer lost control and the motorcycle rolled onto its side, police said.
Shaffer was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was treated and released.
Vehicle theft
MOUNT CARMEL - Kellsie T. Hoskie, 19, of 128 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police with criminal conspiracy to commit theft, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling at night following the theft of a vehicle from West Fourth Street on May 22.
Police said Hoskie was one of three passengers in a vehicle allegedly taken by Jamie Giffin on that date.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 5 before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.
Drug possession
ATLAS - Mount Carmel Township Police charged Travis J. Scherer, 24, of 441 Happy Valley Road, Elysburg, with possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a drug or combination of drugs, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving without required financial responsibility, driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving without a license and careless driving following a traffic stop on Route 61 at 10:06 p.m. March 31.
A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, is set for Wednesday, June 26.
Criminal mischief
MOUNT CARMEL - Justin M. Schoppy, 20, of 333 W., Seventh St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police with loitering and prowling at night and criminal mischief after he allegedly threw a piece of concrete through the windshield of a vehicle owned by Mike Schminkey on May 14.
A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26.
Copper theft
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Stephanie Ditzler, 28, of 303 N. Locust St., Mount Carmel, with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass after she allegedly took 268 pounds of copper from the Pactiv Foodservice plant in Mount Carmel Township May 4, selling it for scrap and receiving $455.
An investigation determined Ditzler, a former employee of the plant, removed a total of 1,971 pounds of copper between March 5 and May 4, selling it for $3,613.12.
Ditzler was arraigned on the charges Monday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and was committed to Northumberland County Prison on $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing before Jones is set for Wednesday, June 12.
Dog found
COAL TOWNSHIP - Coal Township Police said a bull mastiff-type dog was found wandering around State Route 61 in the area of the Jones Hardware store Tuesday.
The owner can claim the dog by contacting the dog warden at 236-3452.
