Resisting arrest
ASHLAND - A borough man was tasered by police following a domestic incident at 930 Middle St. at 8:05 a.m. Monday.
Borough police Patrolman Mark O'Hearn said officers were called to the scene earlier for a disturbance between William Smith, 31, of 930 Middle St., Ashland, and Paula Schistel. Smith fled the scene before police arrived and the authorities searched the area because Smith reportedly had a knife.
Smith was found hiding a block away under a porch, but fled when spotted by police. He returned to his home and tried to escape from a second-story porch, but was held by his waist by Lt. Dan Holderman of the Butler Township Police. Smith fought with police in an attempt to escape down a stairwell, police said, but was tasered and taken into custody.
Smith was charged with resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, persistent disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Christina Hale of Frackville. Schistel was not charged in the incident but was taken into custody on an outstanding bench warrant and committed to Schuylkill County Prison by Butler Township Police.
Borough officers were assisted at the scene by officers of the Butler Township and Girardville Police departments.
Obscene language
SHAMOKIN - David K. Hogestyn, 41, of 343 S. Fifth St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Raymond Siko II for disorderly conduct for allegedly using obscene language multiple times at his residence at 5:20 p.m. Monday.
Drug charges
MOUNT CARMEL - Robert Marlin Rickert, 23, of South Apple Street, Mount Carmel, has been charged by Chief Todd Owens and Patrolman Matthew Dillman with criminal conspiracy, possession with intent to deliver mushrooms and marijuana, possession of mushrooms and marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of children relating to a Dec. 21 incident at his residence.
Sobriety checkpoints
POTTSVILLE - The North Central Highway Safety Network's Regional DUI Enforcement Group and Coal Township police will conduct roving patrols or sobriety checkpoints Thursday through Wednesday, May 29, on Routes 61, 225, 125, 54, 487, 901 and 147 or other connecting roads to municipalities.

The roving patrols and checkpoints are funded through PennDOT and National Highway Safety Administration.
