Scrap metal theft
SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - A Coal Township man faces charges of theft and criminal trespass following a state police investigation into a report of stolen scrap metal.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Samuel Edwards of the Stonington barracks reported in court documents an individual living on Schoolhouse Road discovered several metal items, valued at $1,370, missing on March 17. The person discovered the items were sold to a local scrap yard.
The scrap yard owner showed to police a video of Donald Ponatoski, 26, of 1128 W. Gowen St., Coal Township, selling a load of scrap metal, receiving $100.
Ponatoski was questioned by police and said the scrap metal he sold was from the Elysburg area. A witness then told police Ponatoski was seen in the area where the items were stolen March 9.
Police charged Ponatoski Tuesday with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
Retail theft
SHAMOKIN - A 14-year-old Shamokin male was cited for retail theft by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Raymond Siko II for taking a pair of headphones, valued at $10.60, from Dollar General on Independence Street at 3:32 p.m. Monday.
DUI
ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Kayla D. Holman, 22, of 38 N. Market St., Shamokin, was charged by state police at Stonington with driving under the influence, driving without a license and various summary traffic offenses following the investigation into a traffic stop on Route 225 at 3:41 a.m. Feb. 2. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
Retail theft
SHAMOKIN - City Police Cpl. Jarrod Scandle charged Dal Elliott, 33, of 1102 E. Webster St., Coal Township, with five counts of retail theft after Elliott allegedly pumped gas at the Turkey Hill Minit Market, 501 N. Second St., and left without paying on five different occasions between Dec. 24 and Jan. 25. Total cost of the fuel is $184.75. Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
Assault
SHAMOKIN - Katherine Bixler, 28, of 17 Walnut St., Mount Carmel, and Roslyn M. Nairns, 30, of 1011 W. Pine St., Coal Township, were both charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment following an incident at the Rescue Fire Company, Lincoln and Liberty Streets, at 9:45 p.m. Feb. 1.
According to court documents filed by Shamokin City Police Patrolman William Zalinski, the two women allegedly assaulted Peggy Delorso at the station's banquet hall, punching her several times in the head, face and upper body area, and pulling and removing clumps of hair from her head. The charges were filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
Public drunkenness
SHAMOKIN - Justin M. Socko, 28, of 826 Hemlock St., Shamokin, was cited by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Mark Costa with public drunkenness following an incident in the 400 block of North Rock Street at 3:06 a.m. Friday.
Paraphernalia
SHAMOKIN - City Police Cpl. Jarrod Scandle charged David P. Smith, 27, of 509 S. Diamond St., Shamokin, with possession of drug paraphernalia following a Feb. 2 incident at his residence.
According to court documents, a syringe, spoon, cotton and a bottle of water were found in his room while Smith was being treated for an apparent overdose. Smith allegedly told police he used the items to shoot heroin into his system.
The charge was filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
DUI
SHAMOKIN - Lisa J. Velazquez, 26, of 127 E. Water St., Shamokin, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, following a traffic stop at a Sunbury Street convenience store on Jan. 27.
Shamokin City Police Patrolman Raymond Siko reported in court documents that Velazquez was found slumped behind the wheel of her vehicle at the gas pumps at 7:45 a.m. Chemical testing showed the presence of morphine in her system. A search of her vehicle revealed two syringes and a blue plastic wrapper, consistent with the use of narcotics.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
Retail theft
SHAMOKIN - Kristen Blass, 30, of 1103 Cherry Hill Road, Bloomsburg, was cited for retail theft by Shamokin City Police Cpl. Jarrod Scandle after Blass allegedly took a small cup of coffee, valued at $1.37, from the Turkey Hill Minit Market on Second Street at 3:43 p.m. Feb. 8 without paying.
Simple assault
SHAMOKIN - Albert J. Schweitzer Jr., 37, of 721 Center St., Coal Township, was charged with simple assault and harassment by Shamokin City Police Patrolman William J. Zalinski for allegedly striking his girlfriend, Katherine Bixler, during a domestic dispute on West Center Street at 6:46 p.m. Feb. 1.
Paraphernalia
SHAMOKIN - Zachary Williams, 31, of 129 S. Sixth St., was charged by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Raymond Siko with possession of drug paraphernalia after being found with a chrome pipe and other items consistent with smoking marijuana. The items were found in Williams' residence when police were called to the home at 10:47 p.m. Feb. 3 for a domestic disturbance.
