Child assaulted

SHAMOKIN - John Jay Hackenburg, 32, an inmate at Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury, has been charged by Patrolman Jarrod Scandle with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child involving an April 28 disturbance at 150 S. Pearl St.

Police reported Hackenburg is accused of striking a boy in the face and stepping on his head, causing several injuries. The incident occurred while Hackenburg was living with the victim's mother.

Hit and run crashes

SUNBURY - State police at Stonington are investigating a rash of hit and run crashes early Monday morning in Rockefeller Township.

Betty Wynn, 81, and Lisa Koons, 39, both of Paxinos, reported to police that sometime between 12:01 and 7 a.m. Monday, an unknown vehicle struck their mailboxes. Around the same time period, someone struck a mailbox owned by Cheryl Zellers, at her residence on Plum Creek Road,

At 7:30 a.m. Monday, someone struck a fence at the home of Eddie Furman on Saint Luke's Road, Rockefeller Township. Police identified the vehicle in that incident as an Oldsmobile sedan driven by a female.

DUI charges

SHAMOKIN - Stormie Birster, 20, of 27 E. Sunbury St. Apt. 3, Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol while being a minor, underage drinking, driving without a license and careless driving relating to a May 29 incident at Independence and Rock streets.

Siko also charged Michael R. Barker, 21, of 29 E. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, who was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Birster, with possession of drug paraphernalia for possessing 10 marijuana seeds in a clear plastic bag.

Fields vandalized

EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - Neil Masser, of Leck Kill, reported to state police at Stonington that sometime between 12:01 and 7 a.m. Monday, someone entered his newly planted field off of Upper Road in East Cameron Township and pulled several hundred corn seedlings from the field, damaging approximately $250 worth of plants.

Throws garbage

SHAMOKIN - Corey J. Feese, 22, of 530 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Scott Weaver for violating a city ordinance by throwing two bags of garbage onto his neighbor's property behind 508 Bear Valley Ave. at 10:35 a.m. Friday.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - John D. Yoder, 60, of 144 S. Pearl St., Shamokin, was cited by Cpl. Darwin Tobias III for public drunkenness after he was found lying in the park plot at Market and Chestnut streets at 6:45 p.m. Friday.

Urinates on porch

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Scott Weaver cited Douglas Ebright, 49, of 304 S. Pearl St., Shamokin, for violating a city ordinance for being intoxicated and urinating on a neighbor's porch in the 400 block of South Pearl Street at 12:45 p.m. Friday.

2 cited for fighting

SHAMOKIN - Matthew Raynor, 26, of 101 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, and Brian Murdorf, 20, of 241 S. Vine St., Shamokin, were cited by Chief of Police Edward Griffiths for disorderly conduct for fighting at Pearl and Pine streets at 10:23 p.m. Wednesday.
