Woman injured
DOOLEYVILLE - An 80-year-old Kulpmont woman was treated for injuries at an area hospital following a two-vehicle accident Monday morning on the Strong Connector in Mount Carmel Township.
Claire Postal, 80, had the green light when she attempted to drive her 2009 Chevy Cobalt across Route 54 from Brennan's Farm Road to Locust Gap Highway. Her vehicle struck a 2009 Ford utility vehicle on its driver's side, police said.
Mount Carmel Township Police Chief Brian Hollenbush said the Ford's driver, Michael Marzili, who turns 38 today, of Pottsville, was driving west on Route 54 when he ran a red light, causing the accident.
The crash occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m.
Postal was wearing a seat belt and her vehicle's air bags deployed. She was transported by AREA Services to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was treated and released, according to a hospital nursing supervisor.
Marzili refused treatment at the scene, police said, and will be cited for a traffic light violation.
Postal's vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed. The Ford sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene.
