Forgery charges
LEWIS TOWNSHIP - Cody Lee Chestnut, 21, of Sunbury, has been charged by state police at Milton with seven counts of forgery, theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property involving incidents that occurred between Nov. 8 and Dec. 6 at Nite Lite Sign Company Inc. on Schuyler Road, where he was employed.
Police reported Chestnut stole 12 checks from the sign company, wrote the checks out to himself and forged his aunt's name, an owner of the business, on the checks. Police said Chestnut was successful in cashing several checks, but was questioned by a teller at Turbotville National Bank, who contacted Chestnut's aunt.
Chestnut was arraigned on the charges and recommitted to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Burglary at tree farm
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP - State police at Milton are investigating a burglary Friday morning at Kohl's Stony Hill Tree Farm on Mexico Road in this Montour County township.
Police said four people forcibly gained access to the business and attempted to enter a safe, but were not successful. The thieves did steal two Dewalt power drills and batteries, three digital cameras, two jars of donation money for Children's Miracle Network, a two-foot tall stuffed fawn and surveillance equipment.
Police said the burglary occurred between 2:30 and 5 a.m.
Tavern burglarized
WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP - State police at Milton reported someone entered a rear window at Mindy's Tavern along Route 405 Friday morning and stole money from a jukebox, a 32-inch television and various bottles of vodka, rum and other alcohol.
Police said damage and the value of the stolen items total approximately $1,000.
The burglary occurred between 12:30 and 8:30 a.m.

Cash stolen from church
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP - State police at Selinsgrove are investigating the theft of cash from the Children's Sunday School Fund at First United Church of Christ in this Snyder County township.
Police said the thief gained entry to the church by breaking a window in the basement between 9 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday before stealing the money, breaking into a fire safe and removing church documents.
