Hearing waived
MOUNT CARMEL - Nicholas J. Karlaza, 21, of 21 Back Street, Mount Carmel, waived charges of driving under the influence of a drug or a combination of drugs, careless driving and driving on roadways laned for traffic during a Nov. 28 preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.
Karlaza was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police patrolman David Stamets Jr. following a Sept. 19 accident on the Mid-Valley Mountain.
He was ordered to appear in Northumberland County Court on Jan. 14, at which time he can plead guilty or no contest, or plead not guilty and seek a trial.
Harassment
VALLEY TOWNSHIP - Shirley Jean Corson, 39, of Sinking Spring, was cited for harassment by state police at Milton after she allegedly kept contacting a 26-year-old female from Danville by phone at her residence along Jerseytown Road, Valley Township, and at her workplace in Ralpho Township. Corson is also accused of e-mailing lewd messages about the victim's relationship with her employer.
The citation was field with Magisterial District Judge Marvin K. Shrawder, Danville.
Sobriety checkpoint
STONINGTON - State troopers from the Stonington barracks will conduct a sobriety checkpoint along a state or local highway in Northumberland County in January.
The sobriety checkpoint is part of a Commonwealth-wide DUI checkpoint strike force initiative. The checkpoint involves briefly checking vehicles for operators who are impaired by alcohol and/or controlled substances.
