Waives hearing
SHAMOKIN - Reese Richard Elliott Jr., 22, of 1810 Maple Ave., Coal Township, waived to court Tuesday two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, one count of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, careless driving and driving at an unsafe speed relating to an Aug. 1 incident at Vine and Race streets.
The charges were filed by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II.
Elliott was ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to appear for plea court Dec. 31 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, where he can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
Retail theft
SHAMOKIN DAM - Heather A. Frank, 27, of Mount Carmel, was charged with retail theft and drug possession by state police at Selinsgrove following an incident at K-Mart at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said Frank concealed $69.77 worth of merchandise in her purse and then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. A small amount of marijuana was allegedly found in Frank's back pocket during a search, police said.
Frank was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Mensch, of Mifflinburg, on a felony charge of retail theft and a misdemeanor count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was placed in Snyder County Prison on $10,000 bail.
Woman found
KULPMONT - Borough police apprehended a woman who fled a halfway house Monday in Schuylkill County.
Heather Pickering, 24, was taken into custody by Police Chief Rick Wilson at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday at 763 Spruce St.
Pickering failed to return to Gaudenzia New Destiny halfway house in Ashland Monday after work.
She was turned over to state police at Frackville, Wilson said.
Wilson was assisted by Patrolman Daniel Politza, Mount Carmel Township Police.
