COAL TOWNSHIP - William Griffiths, 32, of 936 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, has been charged by Coal Township police with illegal use of certain solvents and noxious substances for an incident that took place at about 2:45 a.m. Sept. 6 at the entrance road to Walmart. Police said Griffiths was seen running around the area with no shirt on and yelling that he was bitten by bees.
Police reported Griffiths was found to be in possession of two aerosol cans of Ultra Duster cleaner that he previously purchased at Walmart, and one of the cans was empty.
East Cameron crash
EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - Melvin R. Brown, 23, of Shamokin, will be cited by Pennsylvania State Police at Stonington with driving too fast for conditions as a result of an accident that occurred at 6:29 a.m. Saturday on Route 125 in East Cameron Township.
According to Trooper Nathan Meissner, Brown's vehicle was going north on Route 125 when the driver failed to negotiate a right curve. The vehicle crossed the center line and soundbound lane, left the highway and struck an embankment. The trooper reported Brown left the accident scene.
Citations issued
COAL TOWNSHIP - Chris Petrovich, Coal Township code enforcement officer, reported citations have been issued against:
- Donald Kuntz, of 45 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, for a property located at 1405 W. Walnut St. Kuntz was cited for high brush, grass and weeds.
- Quisqueya Reynoso, of 2070 Seward Ave., Bronx, N.Y., for properties located at 1606 Tioga St. and 1608 Tioga St. for brush, grass and weeds.
Vehicle accident
COAL TOWNSHIP - Coal Township police continue to investigate a one-vehicle accident that occurred at about 5:14 p.m. Friday in the teachers' lot at Shamokin Area High School.
According to police, Kyle Burns, 23, of Coal Township, was operating a 1994 Ford Ranger in the area of the lot when he lost control of the vehicle and drove over a guardrail and down an embankment, just off State Street. The truck proceeded across the lot into a wooded section where it came to rest.
Police said Burns was transported via AREA Services ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center with minor injuries and for further evaluation.
Retail theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - Beth Ellen Morgan, 42, of Mount Carmel, has been charged by Coal Township police with one count of retail theft for an incident that occurred Aug. 30 at Walmart.
Township police allege Morgan stole $205.98 worth of merchandise without paying full retail value. Police added tMorgan has three prior convictions for retail theft.
