Harley theft
ATLAS - Sean Michael McDermott, 46, of 497 S. River Breeze Ave., Winfield, is charged by Mount Carmel Township Police Chief Brian Hollenbush with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property. McDermott is accused of stealing Jeffrey Herman's 2006 Harley-Davidson from the rear of Jennifer Rudy's home at 448 E. Columbia Ave. between 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and 6:30 a.m. Thursday. The motorcycle was located undamaged in a wooded area about a quarter-mile from the scene. McDermott was arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is set for July 29.
False identity
MOUNT CARMEL - Alex Christopher Long, 25, of 322A W. Main St., Girardville, is charged jointly by Patrolman Matthew Dillman and Chief Todd Owens with felony forgery, two counts each of tampering with records or identification and theft and a single count of false identification to law enforcement, all misdemeanor counts.
Police say Long used his brother's name and photo identification to register as an informant for the Northumberland-Montour Drug Task Force. He is accused of using drug-buy money to purchase bath salts, which he allegedly ingested before he was taken into custody June 9 at 137 W. Fourth St. Police say he had 1.44 grams of bath salts in his possession.
Additional related charges of felony forgery and misdemeanors tampering with records of identification, false identification to law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed jointly by Dillman and Patrolman Jason Drumheller.
He was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones and jailed on a combined $30,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.
'Spice' arrest
KULPMONT - Brad Edward Kashner, 24, of 35 S. Fifth St., Apt. 3, Shamokin, is charged by state Trooper Jared Mowen of the Stonington station with possession of a non-controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and prohibited offensive weapons. Kashner was detained on a bench warrant following a traffic stop at Eighth and Scott streets at 8:15 p.m. June 15. According to a criminal complaint, police seized 10 bags of synthetic marijuana, known as "spice," plus a digital scale, two smoking devices and a set of brass knuckles. The spice packets were labeled Ninja, Blue Giant, Xtreme Aroma and Bomb Marley. He was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones and jailed on $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.
Paraphernalia
ATLAS - Lelo Lorraine Shingara, 48, of 311 Shingara Lane, Sunbury, is charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while operating privilege is suspended. The charges followed a traffic stop about 5:30 p.m. April 23 in the 200 block East Saylor Street. Police say Shingara was driving a 1990 Chevrolet pickup and had a suspended license. A piece of aluminum foil with burnt residue and a small plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance were allegedly found in the vehicle, according to a criminal complaint. A summons was issued for her arrest, and a preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 26.
DUI
MOUNT CARMEL - Jessie Lee Gebhart, 31, of 304 W. Third St., Mifflinville, is charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell with two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, one count of driving under the influence, and counts of endangering the welfare of a child, careless driving and reckless driving. Police say Gebhart crashed a 2001 Buick LeSabre at 4:40 p.m. June 12 into the center guide rail along Route 61 near the soccer fields just east of the borough. A young child was a passenger. Blood testing returned positive for five types of prescription medication exceeding legal limits, according to a criminal complaint. A summons was issued for her arrest, and a preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 26.
Assault charge
MOUNT CARMEL - Jordan Michael Politza, 25, of 545 E. Second St., is charged by Patrolman Kevin Katch with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. Police say Politza repeatedly punched a male inside Schicky's Wings-N-Things, 34 N. Oak St., at 4:08 a.m. May 17. The assault was recorded by the restaurant's video surveillance system, and allegedly involved over an allegation that Politza groped the alleged victim's girlfriend, according to a criminal complaint. The male suffered a fractured leg and required surgery as a result of Politza allegedly stomping on his leg, the complaint states. Police say Politza denied groping the woman and claimed self-defense.
Pipe charge
KULPMONT - Charles H. Dorney, 53, of 222 N. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel, is charged by state Trooper Nicholas Berger of the Stonington station with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to a criminal complaint. Dorney was working as a bartender at 9:55 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Jan Sobieski Club, 10th and Scott streets, when a state Liquor Control Enforcement agent was on scene. The agent told police Dorney walked outside and placed a small metallic pipe on a tire of his vehicle. A summons was issued for his arrest, and a preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 2.
