Two-vehicle crash
COAL TOWNSHIP - One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 61 near the area known as the Brewery Curve at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday.
Township police Patrolman Matthew Hashuga reported a 2006 Dodge Caravan, driven by Albert Walters, 53, of Shamokin, was traveling west on Center Street. After stopping at the intersection with Route 61, he pulled out and attempted to cross four lanes of traffic to turn left and travel south on Route 61.
A 2014 Dodge Caravan, driven by Marilu McGirk, 49, of Coal Township, was traveling north on Route 61 and Walters pulled out into her lane of travel, causing a collision. A front-seat passenger Walters' vehicle, Amber Jweid, of Shamokin, and McGirk, complained of injuries and both went to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital by private vehicle for treatment.
The investigation is continuing.
Littering
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police are investigating a littering/dumping incident near Big Mountain Road, when someone dumped the entire body and contents of a Vega trailer. Anyone with information is asked to contact Coal Township Police.
