PFA violation

SHAMOKIN - Nathan Olah, 25, of 406 E. Sixth St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with violating a protection from abuse order.

According to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Olah is accused of sending harassing and vulgar text messages to Sarah Britton, of Shamokin, which violated a PFA order issued Jan. 9. The order expires Jan. 9, 2018.

Drug charge

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman William Zalinski charged Matthew Derk, 19, of 322 E. Sunbury St., Apt. 6, Shamokin, with possessing two Percocet pills not prescribed to him at his apartment June 22.

Theft, drug charges

SHAMOKIN - Jesika McCann, 23, of 1008 N. Pearl St., Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman William Miner with theft and forgery for allegedly stealing checks belonging to Josephine Markle and forging and cashing five of the checks totaling $190 Oct. 1.

McCann also was charged by Patrolman William Zalinski with possessing 10 Ativan pills not prescribed to her at 322 E. Sunbury St., Apt. 6, Shamokin, June 22.

Charges dismissed

SHAMOKIN - Charges of simple assault and harassment filed by Coal Township Patrolman Christopher Lapotsky against Agnes Coleman, 50, of 141 Coal Run Road, Coal Run, were dismissed Tuesday when her husband and alleged victim, James Coleman, refused to testify at a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III.

Police reported Agnes Coleman was charged with allegedly stabbing her husband in the back with a butter knife at their home June 24. Police said James Coleman was injured and the blade of the knife was bent.

Drug charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 26-year-old Shamokin man taken by ambulance to an area hospital after being discovered in an alleged highly intoxicated state June 18 in a wooded area between Mulberry and State streets has been charged with drug offenses.

Curtis Groom, of 1006 N. Orange St., is charged by Patrolman Jason Adams with possessing a small amount of marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia including a clear plastic bag and multi-colored glass smoking pipe.

Groom was found lying against a log, dozing in and out of consciousness, as Adams and Patrolman David Sage repeatedly asked for his name, his hometown, and what drugs he may have ingested. A neighbor said Groom had been seen in the woods the past few days.

Drug offenses

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Bryan Primerano has charged Malcolm Carnaghan, 49, of 1141 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, with possessing a small amount of marijuana, possessing drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct involving a June 21 disturbance at 328 S. Pearl St.

Police said Carnaghan, who allegedly pounded on the door at the residence demanding entry, was found in possession of a plastic bag containing marijuana.

Hit and run

SHAMOKIN - Gregory James Adams, 46, of 707 W. Chestnut St., Apt. B, Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Shane Mowery with hit and run, failure to give information and render aid at an accident and reckless driving relating to a May 28 accident at 224-226 S. Diamond St.

Police reported Adams drove a 1996 Chrysler into both structures before fleeing the scene. Police said the residents of 224 S. Diamond St. were home at the time of the crash.

Drug paraphernalia

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Shane Mowery has charged Jeffery E. Barber Jr., 21, of 77 Raspberry Hill, with possession of drug paraphernalia involving a June 16 incident at Shamokin Police Station.

Police said Barber was found with a silver, metal smoking pipe with burnt residue.

Simple assault

COAL TOWNSHIP - Detective Jeff Brennan has charged Brian Poplaskie, 47, of 3072 Upper Road, Shamokin, with simple assault and harassment relating to a June 12 disturbance at 1564 Pulaski Ave.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Poplaskie is accused of kicking 63-year-old Faith Smink, in the groin, causing injury. Police said the assault occurred outside Smink's home.

Inmate charged

COAL TOWNSHIP - Dustin Michael Mollany, 23, a Northumberland County Prison inmate being housed at SCI-Coal Township, has been charged by Northumberland County Detective Degg Stark with institutional vandalism.

Police said Mollany is accused of causing $521.19 damage to a sprinkler head system in his cell June 15.
