Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Dennis Sosnoski, 43, of 1239 Tioga St., Coal Township, reported a vehicle struck his chain-link fence late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, causing it to fall apart and bend.

Gym bag found

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police here reported a gym bag was found Wednesday morning in the Ferndale ballfield area and brought to the township police station.

The owner of the bag can claim it by contacting police at 570-644-0333.

Burglaries

SUNBURY - City police are investigating two recent burglaries.

On April 15, police reported someone entered an apartment at 358 1/2 Market St. through a window and removed various items.

On Monday, police were dispatched to a report of a burglary at Sports Zone, 228 Market St., where someone attempted to enter the business by smashing the front window.

Officers said anyone with information about the burglaries should contact them at 570-286-4587 or 570-988-4539.

Vehicle break-ins

SUNBURY - Police here reported multiple vehicle break-ins occurred between 10 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday in the 100 and 900 blocks of Reagan Street, 200 block of North Ninth Street and 1200 block of Highland Avenue.

Handgun stolen

SUNBURY - City police are investigating the theft of a handgun from a vehicle parked in a lot in the 1100 block of North Fourth Street.

Police said the gun was stolen between 2 and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

DUI defendant sentenced

SUNBURY - Robert Hertzog Jr., 21, of Mount Carmel, was sentenced Wednesday by Northumberland County Judge Charles Saylor to 30 days to six months in Northumberland County Prison on two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Hertzog also will lose his driver's license for 24 months and was ordered to pay $2,000 in fines plus costs. He must undergo outpatient counseling and is prohibited from bars and alcohol.

He will begin his sentence Monday, May 4.

Hertzog was charged by Mount Carmel and Mount Carmel Township police in connection with incidents on Dec. 21, 2013, and May 12, 2014, respectively.
